waitingtopassParticipantHi All,
I got an email that my exam was canceled today 8/29. I HAVE to take it before 8/31 and pass so I don't lose parts! I am feeling really confident that I can pass if I take it. I have been on hold with prometrics to get it rescheduled for almost 3hrs now. I know that there were no seat availabilities since it is the end of the testing window. Does anyone know what they are going to do or is anyone else in the same situation? Has anyone's actually be rescheduled? Please help!

AnonymousInactiveBecker did not do a very good job with my sims topics at all. If I relied on just Becker for the sims, I would have failed for sure. I did all the Wiley 2010 sims in the test bank and that helped. I just got the 2011 Wiley book and it covers them but not in much detail, but I will be much more prepared next time.
The phaseout amount question was one where the phaseout amounts haven't changed in a long time. I don't think they expect us to know the year to year phase out limits for items that are always changing.

Lynn1234MemberMay I ask how the CPA Exam is graded…or how I can learn more about it? Just a curious thought I guess.
Do they curve it? Some people say just make sure to be in the better half. But do they base their curve by state, or country or how does this really work?

AnonymousInactiveHi Allyson and Lynn
any cpa course providers are provding just review, no one can guaranttee you that simulations how it is presented in there material will be presented in same way, and moreover Cpa Exams are how students understand the concepts, whether they will be in a position to apply the law in real life thats what they test, and if you know the concept you can solve any problem, there can be more than 1000 of variety of simulation, and if you wrote regulation in this window you might have observed simulations are not difficult it is what student dont expect, in reality they are not hard it is only not presented in any review material in the same way, but you know once this type of questions are released course review provider will include the same kind, and then again in next window you will see they will test something else or something new, these lifecycle continues, and the main purpose of short task based simulations are how students will apply knowledge based on the facts presented in small cases or scenarios. and iam sure topics on simulations are covered in becker text, we students just listen lecture and ignore other text material which is not right, what i say again we should not leave any topic in text we should cover 100% and more over we should have conceptual clarity.
hope this helps and clarifies
thanks

GaryWParticipantI took REG Sat and was well prepared. I used Becker and knew the material inside and out. The only way to have passed that exam was to be certified in financial planning and also have a degree in Finance. I do have a degree in finance which is the only reason I was able to answer the only tax questions thrown at me and it was not from a tax view but rather was from a financial planning angle. Go figure. At any rate, I make no apologies for not passing this one. I doubt many Accounting majors could have. It's just the luck of the draw with some of the exams.
I guess the review courses haven't caught up with all the changes. No doubt I'll be taking this one again. Have to go now and put my ‘Rocky' attitude on for the rematch.

yankeeaccountantParticipantGood luck Gary!
Keep the faith…I am hopeful but I have to say the sims were evil.
It will be a long wait!

GLWCPAMemberI took REG yesterday and did not think it was as bad as everyone has been saying. I thought FAR was much worse!!! The sims were reasonable and while I don't think I would have done well on them without the Research tab being available, I feel like I ended up doing ok on them by using the Research tab, which I think is the reason they provide it for the sims. It's not just a test of do you know the material, but can you research and find out how to do it if you don't know the answer right off the top of your head. One of the sims was not covered in REG, but rather in FAR, but the Research tab allowed me to come up with the right calcuations to answer the questions. I actually thought the MCQ were a little more difficult, but none of them were way out in left field. I used Becker and thought that everything on the exam was covered in Becker, with the exception of that 1 simulation. My exam focused more on the first 4 chapters, rather than the last 3, but would suggest being familiar with everything because you just never know. Phase-outs were not a major focus on mine, but a couple of them did incorporate a general knowledge of there being one and the amounts were so high or low that it was obvious. I highly recommend doing the final exams in Becker and the 2011 AICPA released questions and sims, they were very helpful! Good Luck!
