AnonymousInactiveI dont know if I could pass my REG, but I have finished
1) watching all lectures once
2) making notes (2 notebooks)
3) more than 300 double-side flashcards(include all chapters and samples shown in DVD)
4) all assignments by Yaeger twice
5) all MCs and Simulations from Wiley Test Bank
6) Read all contents underlined by Yaeger and also the handouts for 3 times.
7) all related forms for at least twice

AnonymousInactiveTook my exam earlier this window and wanted to leave an unbiased review of my experience before scores came out.
I studied for about 6 weeks, clocking close to 4 hours each day. There were some days when I would barely get any studying done, of course. For the most part though, I clocked in 4 hours (including weekends). I would read an entire chapter, watched lectures by chapter topic, answered questions by chapter topic, and repeated. For my review, I skimmed through the entire book and rewatched lectures for R1-R4 as I skimmed. I felt that I knew R5-R7 pretty well since I had just completed those topics. Took the Becker Final Exam for REG and scored a 71.
In the exam room, I thought testlet 1 was pretty easy. I marked 6 questions that I was unsure of. For testlets 2 and 3, I couldn't tell if they were harder but did notice that I had to mark 10 questions that I was unsure of. For most of the questions that I was unsure of, I was at least able to narrow them down to two choices. So I'm praying that I chose the better halves. Left 1 hr 30 min for the simulations. One of the simulations was a topic I completely bombed as it was something Becker marked as ancillary. I would have expected to see this in a simulation for FAR rather than REG, too. I also missed the research due to time restraints (I inputted some random code section). For the other simulations, I found the authoritative literature to be completely useless. In other words, I gave up using it and tried to complete the other 4 simulations to the best of my abilities. I used up all of my time. Overall, I felt alright with the simulations as they were at least familiar enough for me to take educated guesses.
My personal opinion is that I will barely pass with something between 75-80. If I do fail, though, I am sure I can thank my simulations for that.

PeanutParticipantSo my third experience taking REG yesterday. Let's just say I didn't leave the testing center crying like I did for FAR. This is the first exam that I have gone into very confident and felt very prepared. First testlet was easy peasy, 2nd and 3rd I think that they got harder, they were more in depth, longer, and on topics I think Becker emphasizes as “harder” During the test the woman came over to tell me to put my flip flops back on. I responded with “I'm 4'11 and can't touch the ground so my flip flops come off, I pay 300 bucks every time I take an exam so please leave now that you have already distracted me”.. I turn into mega biatch when I take these! So that's the MCQ… Then the SIMS came, they were all topics I was familiar with but I had to honestly guess on a few, I had 1:47 mins to go when I entered the SIMS. At 1:09 my EXAM FROZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A message then pops up “THE SYSTEM HAS ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS SOME OF YOUR WORK MAY BE LOST” I raise my hand immediately so the same young pain in @ss woman comes back and restarts it. When it restarted I still had 1:09 to go, THANK GOD! But after all these distractions my brain was kind of all over the place. I could not find my research question either 🙁 I think I may be sitting for a 4th time for this and I will know it's because of the SIMS… On a happy note though, I LOVE the Wiley test bank, it was the best purchase I've made. I felt so confident in the MCQs and that's never happened. Thank you Wiley! Alright my rant is over. Good luck this week everyone, and thanks everyone for the good lucks you sent me yesterday 🙂

yankeeaccountantParticipantI have been stalking the REG thread waiting to hear how things went….sorry about the nasty lady! I am fairly lucky, the guys at my center are so nice. They remember my name (ok, maybe that isn't so nice!!!).
Sounds like the mcq's were good for you!!! Kinda scary about the computer freezing…seems like there has been alot of that happening. Glad you recovered. Great job! Don't count yourself out, one sim is pretest, and we always tend to think the worst immediately after the exam. I am hoping to hear your good news in September–stay positive 🙂

AldogParticipanthey guysssssssss-just got thru REG3 mostly …after a 5 day stint of giving into peerpressure dn blowing off this exam, im back at it- @baked i just read past few days and saw your post signed “Doc & the Delorean”, Back2theFuture was on Sunday at some point in time i was ina coma on a couch watching it haha
so yeaaa-thanks for the advice, and no i dont mess with 73's, i study to get 75's baby :). Im gonna start R4 tonight (probly only first half per advice) and then rewind and really nail down 1 & 2…then skim over 5-7 and then have to pay another $250 to take this stupid exam (i paid it back in january but blew the test off in the name of enjoying life/summer, sorry4partying)
peanut thats miserable!!!!!!!!!!!111 haha i cnt believe that, they tried to tell me to put my shoes back on once too, i freaked out on the lady-took a line from saving silverman “listen, i come in here a lot, and i spend a lot of $ here so why dont you just leave me the he77 alone!!” 🙂 …im sure you killed it!

AnonymousInactiveJust took REG and what a disaster! The mcq were okay but I didn't notice the testlets getting more difficult. The first one was difficult to me. Of course everything I looked up after the exam that I guessed on, I got wrong.
The sims were from outer space. The first one would have been easy if FAR was still fresh in my brain, the second one I couldn't decipher what they were asking, the the research was a toss-up, the fourth TBS was from my last exam experience so I think I got it, the last 2 TBS were topics not covered well by Wiley or Becker.
I practice EVERY simulation in Becker and Wiley and only one was of any use whatsoever.
I'm going to keep studying. I know the sims killed me and I'll be retaking REG again.

MeganParticipantUgh Allyson I hate to hear that! You never know though. I did WAAAAY better on my 3rd attempt at BEC (or so I thought) than my 4th, and that turned out okay for me. I know that doesn't make you feel better, but don't be discouraged!

yankeeaccountantParticipantAllyson,
I tell you what: if I went to high school with REG–I would never have hung out with him. He doesn't make any sense, he comes out of nowhere, and he doesn't know how to ask for what he wants. WAIT…all of a sudden this is getting weird :0
I think you probably did better than you think, we just tend to focus on what we think we got wrong, not what we got right.
I will be hanging on the forum with ya in September…….and saying lots of prayers!
Who's bringing the goats?

AnonymousInactive@peanut—sounds like you may have pulled it off this time. And amusing side note, all this time I never knew you were a female(I know a guy named Peanut so I just assumed you were a dude). The wonders of the internet. I am encouraged to hear that you felt better prepared by using the Wiley test bank—I purchased it for the same reason as you(memorizing Becker questions) and its been good–kickin my butt so far just because they ask different variations of the question, but its helping me and sounds like it helped you as well.
@aldog—yeah man, shoot for that 75. And dang 250! And I thought the $185 we paid out here in cali was ridiculous—you have an exam date set yet? I think you made the right choice, I took a 3 month “vacation” from the exam last fall because it'd be impossible for me to study during football season—its about life balance my man so a summer of fun is probably just what you needed, now its time to get to work for about 2 months and knock out your last section. Good luck!
@allyson—was hoping to hear a more positive experience from you. Was Reg a lot different than the last time you sat for it? Like Yankee said—sometimes we feel our worst immediately after the exam, stay optimistic. I know for me, no matter what I am taking the 4 weeks off after this exam, just cause I need it for my sanity at this point. If you decide to continue studying, I am not going to disagree with that, in fact its smart(I usually tend to forget a big chunk of material in about a month myself)—especially since q4 is back to releasing in waves so an early october exam means not having to wait 2 months for a score. If you do have to re-take it, you will be better prepared, but lets hope that doesnt even happen.
I sit for this beast on friday—I feel like I know the key concepts, but its been said and I tend to agree that knowing the little details or items barely mentioned in Becker is just as important for this exam. Do I feel more prepared than last time? Maybe a little bit(last time I walked in feeling pretty damn prepared)….hoping to just do 2 points better this time though!

AnonymousInactiveI keep hearing some of the Sims seemed like they came from FAR??? This worries me a bit. Maybe it's the Sim that is not graded. I have been studying like crazy, Becker, Wiley, and CPA Excel. I am fresh off a 74, which I scored stronger on m/c and weaker on Sims. I have been focusing on really grasping the difficult topics so that if seen in Sim form, I at least stand a chance. I feel much more confident this go around and more knowledgable on the topics. And I have gotten a 71 and a 70 before the 74, so I have seen all kinds of off the wall Sims, but nothing relating to FAR material (maybe one on my previous test that could have been seen in BEC). I sit Friday and am taking off work Thursday to do a nice relaxing overview and hit the tricky topics (AMT expecially) hard. Best of luck to all that have sat and all who are sitting! I hope to God I get it this time!

AnonymousInactiveI'm trying to calm down… I guess I'm just mad that I studied so hard only to be blindsided. Now I am looking up the sims I got and how to tackle them if I ever see them again. My advanced tax book from college doesn't even go into that much detail – smh. I will also review some FAR topics for my retake.
It's just luck of the draw. Either you get stuff you studied or you don't. It's impossible to study every single thing.
Ok. I will stop beating myself up and cursing the AICPA.
The long wait for scores begins.
@Baked, yes, this exam was a LOT harder than the one I took in 2009. I miss the written communications and straightforward simulations.
