AnonymousInactiveI am using Becker 2011 and the Wiley 2011 Book at a supplement. I have noticed that Wiley goes way more in depth than Becker and the questions are much harder. This was the same with BEC and AUD however with REG, the spread is wider. In the past the actual questions were more in line with Beckers difficulty.
Does anyone know if its the same for REG? I am just getting killed with all the minor details that Wiley is throwing into the questions. It is getting frustrating cause I thought I was in a good position after I did the Beckers MC, but now after reviewing with Wiley I am getting overwhelmed. I dont plan on taking the exam until sometime in Feb, late Feb if need be. Can someone provide me with some words of wisdom to help build some confidence?

AnonymousInactive@zooyuka — i should be getting my videos for Yeager tomorrow. I'll take a look and let you know once I get it. Is there a video for each module? I know some seem like 10 pages, so maybe they combined them.
@danatwvu09 — What year did you graduate WVU??? I am a 2002 grad!!!! I used Becker about 4-5 yrs ago obviously didnt go well lol…but I've been using Wiley and Yaeger cram and I passed FAR, BEC, and AUD…i just got the homestudy for REG hopefully its one and done for this beast.

herbert7890ParticipantI'm studying for REG with: Becker 2011 selfstudy and flashcards, Wiley 2011 book and will use Yaeger 2010 cram (club 75). My study plan is to watch the Becker lectures, then review the flashcards, then read the appropriate module in the Wiley book and finally do the MCQs and simulations. I will do that process with every chapter and then i will watch the Yaeger Cram. I just started today with the mcqs of R-1. Should be done tomorow with those.

AnonymousInactiveI graduated in 2009. I have a feeling Becker might be a little soft with REG. I dont do tax work so I have to relearn all of this stuff. It is so detailed and Wiley seems to get you with every tiny thing possible. I feel like I could spend a whole month just on Individual taxes. I just think its rediculous to test on all these details. I have heard from people that do peoples taxes just look everything up. I can understand testing on certain topics, but knowing at what income level things phase out and at what percentage over that amount gets to be a little entensive. Its just frustrating.

AnonymousInactivewish I had Dr. Neidermeyer reteaching this tax stuff to me haha
December 20, 2010 at 10:32 pm #370874
AnonymousInactiveLol Dr Neidermeyer was funny unless u were the one he was drilling! Wiley is like an encyclopedia. Im in financial no clue about tax or law. Thats y i got the course. It wasnt much more than the cram so i said f it! I wouldnt go crazy trying to memorize limits and so forth. The mc questions should get you familiar with what they will ask.

AnonymousInactive@ zooyuka 37.5 hours wow that seems brutal! Thats about 18 days at 2 hrs per day. How are you managing your time?
@sdbfsu — how long did it take you to complete the course? When you taking the exam?

I just started disc 9 last night. The way I've budgeted my time is by allocating one video per day. Even though the videos are roughly one hour, it usually takes me about 2-2.5 hrs a piece with stopping for notes and questions. I usually double up on Sat and Sun. Now that I am on the back end I think I will be able to pick up the pace since the videos are shorter and not as intense as the initial videos. I plan on wrapping up the lectures on Sunday and I sit for my test on 1/7.

I started the beginning of December and devoted roughly 20hrs a week (about two weeks). I work full-time and have two children so my time is extremely limited. This is how I did it:
Woke up at 5:30am every morning for two weeks and put in around an hour.
Studied an hour during lunch.
Studied an hour at night.
Weekends I put in around 4-8 hours.
I have a mountain of notes!!! Lol. My goal now is to do all of the MC and then rewrite all of my notes. I moved my exam to Jan 25th partly because of the holidays and the other because I haven't had great success forcing my self on a time limit to take it.
BEC - 60, 71, 79
AUD - 73, 66, 87!!!!! Yes! I am done!
REG - 74, 76
FAR - 75Yaeger Review for all except my last AUD score (Roger)!

rollerc07410ParticipantCan someone clarify the following for me: I checked Becker for updates for 2011 REG exam. In chapter 3 it says that on page 30 section B that a co. can take $10,000 in start-up expenses for 2010 instead of the usual 5,000. My question is: do i have to know what 2010 rule is, i thought this test is on 2011. Do i have to know both? Can someone clarify?

AnonymousInactivethe way I understand it is as follows…a company is allowed $5,000 for startup and an additional $5,000 for organizational expenses…for a total of $10,000….that is the same rule as 2009…it is $5,000 for each type and not $10,000 alone for startup…they should be viewed as separate items
anyone who knows otherwise feel free to correct my explanation 🙂
December 22, 2010 at 5:15 pm #370882
rollerc07410Participant@Abe
If i may, i believe your explanation may be incorrect because it specifically states in the correction online that organizational start-up is STILL 5,000 and that start up expenses specifically is underlined in regard to its change for 2010 to 10,000 a year. LEt me know what you think of my counter.
