    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley

I don't take the exam till the beginning of August so i haven't seen anything yet.haha. I use Gliem and I haven't seen the recapture there yet either. However, I got Jeff's NINJA notes that covers a bit of it. I would guess that whatever is on the exam for alimony recapture will be minimal…but then again…..who am i to be making assumptions! ha. Good luck

    10/03/12 AUD- 91!!!
    12-07-12 BEC- 75!!! (Half way)
    01/18/13 REG - 68, 78.
    02/28/13 FAR -68, 65 11/6/13 PLEASE!!!!

If you know the alimony recapture formula from the ninja guide – you're good to go.

Is Strategic Planning considered an organizational cost or a start-up that can be amortized?

    Allyson,

Well, that is a stumper. I would go for start up, just because it doesn't relate directly to the formation of the organization. Since SWOT analysis could lend itself to a business idea, I would do start up.

My understanding is that the reason behind the alimony recapture is to prevent someone from paying a huge alimony payment in the first year and taking that as a deduction when in reality it was in lieu of a property settlement or something. If the alimony was small there isn't much of recapture. But if the alimony payment is $100K in the first year and drops significantly (to maybe $50K in the second and third year), some of that first huge payment will be recaptured.

I think I'm psyching myself out. My test is scheduled for Monday and I think I'm pretty ready for it…maybe even more so than I've been for other sections in the past. But I've been reading the REG posts since the beginning of the year and the general consensus is that it sucks!!! It seems like people who felt ready are still having a hard time on it. I really don't want to fail. Any words of encouragement out there? Any last minute study tips?

Thanks for the explanation. I think you are good to go. You seem like you have prepared well. Don't doubt yourself, go into the exam with confidence, maybe even a little bravado. You got it!

Best of luck…I am right behind you on the 31st. Check back in with us and let us know how you did.

OK. I wasn't even going to study alimony recature (it's not in Becker) but now I am freaking out that this may be one of those things people are seeing on exams.

Off I go to the NINJA notes!

    Allyson,

I can't remember if it is in Becker, it might be ancillary, I must admit I had a hard time listening to Peter this time around. Too much talk about SL 450's (Mercedes) and money, money, and money!! But Yaeger talked about it in the cram. The concept makes sense to me, it is the calculation that seems to be the most convulted way of calculating something. I have to go back to Ninja notes myself, I think when I read it yesterday, it seemed less wordy than how Phil put it.

I am not a tax person, so you have one up on me, this stuff is crazy to memorize and understand. I am so glad I don't have any money and that I use Turbo tax!!!

Have fun storming the castle today!!

    Hello All!

As a married dad with two small boys (6 and 3) who didn't discover his knack for accounting until his forties, I'm a little late to the game. Heck, I'm still trying to wrap up the last few courses necessary to meet the educational requirements here in WA state. Maybe, before too terribly long, I'll have an AUD or REG score to post…but it will be awhile.

Hope that as a newbie I'm welcome here, even if I can't claim “another 71.”
