Thanks, bakedCPA. very good insight. I appreciate the support. 🙂 Good luck on your rematch with REG! I think that positive thinking works wonders. I just need to keep my head up.

@Peanut – I used Exam Matrix for AUD and Becker for BEC and FAR. Exam Matrix may supply all the approprite material, but there weren't any lectures or guidance on what is important, which is why it is so much cheaper. I am 2 for 2 with Becker and hoping to make it 3 for 3. Although a lot of comments on this board say that there was a material amount of subject matter on the REG exam that were not covered in the Becker lectures, which concerns me a bit. I never even really scanned the ancillary material for BEC and FAR and my scores were good in my opinion. Sounds like if I do that for REG, I may get my but handed to me on the exam.

    AUD - 86 (08/10)
    BEC - 83 (11/10)
    FAR - 90 (05/11)
    REG - 78 (11/11)

Does anyone have any advice on the recommended number of study hours for REG? I took it in April and got a 74 and put in about 140 hours…ugh:( Am now scheduled to retake August 4th and in studying am doing pretty well on the MCQs. Any tips on how to “re-study” for this exam? Thanks!

Wish I knew Tiffany. I also put in some solid hours(I don't keep track but I'd guess between 100-150) and didnt get it done. Now for the retake I am curious as to how to re-study since whatever I did last time wasn't quite good enough. The usual advice on here is to go through the material again from start to finish, and maybe touch up on your weak areas. I am starting over(self study) and so far its going decent mainly because I don't have to teach myself as much or work as hard on the learning of the material as the last time. I feel like if I can simply catch up to where I was before, and then surpass it—I will be in good shape.

Took REG today for the second time, last time I took it in Feb and didn't study hard enough. Walking out of that test I felt totally blindsided by most of the questions.

This time I studied really hard, and walked out of the exam feeling pretty ok. I used Ninja, Wiley book and Gleim test bank, and can say that some of those questions were probably harder than what I saw on the exam. Wiley wants you to remember so many small excrutiating details, but having to know all those things helps on the exam because I can look at it and say “oh ya, this is easy because ive done it to an even more detailed level” or look at the question and say “wow, im glad i remembered that small detail from Wiley so I know the anwser is X and not Y”

I dont know about Becker, but I get the sense that it focuses alot more on just basic concepts and not too much in the details. Maybe this is better, but for me I definately felt like there was nothing on that test that Wiley didn't have at least one practice question for.

The sims…definately leave time for the sims!!! I had to use the research tab on every single one because there was some abstract thing that I wasnt sure about or had never even heard of! Lucky for me, I got pretty good at navigating through the IRC, so I was able to find answers to most of my questions to help with the sims. I don't felt totally clueless on all of them! but at least with the help of the research tab I had more to go on. I left about 90 minutes for the sims, and that was enough time, but just barely. I felt I rushed through the MCQ tho, I wish I had more time to do that part. I didnt even bother marking questions because I knew I wouldnt have time to go back and check them.

Just took REG used Becker 100%, and studied about 20 hrs. a week since 2nd week of April. I felt like all of the issues I had seen before I nailed but I had so many unknown questions that I feel I had no idea on. Of the tabs I had, two of them were just totally off the wall; I guess I just have to pray that one was a “practice” tab…

I'm getting about 70% on becker individual tax hw questions first time through. My plan is to hit Tax super hard and breeze through Blaw. I think there are way too many details to remember and the basic concepts, criterias and rules for tax might be more helpful than trying to know every single detailed calculation, but I could be wrong on that.

I just took Reg thursaday. Definitely wasn't awful but I'm still concerned about my score. I was annoyed at the ambiguity of the Sims. It seems (from the posts on here) the sims are a problem for almost everyone but does Anyone have any advice on how to handle them when you aren't even sure what exactly they are asking? Do you think those are graded at all subjectively?

    Reg -84
    Aud - 86

Hi REG Takers! I'm currently using cpareviewforfree which I like, but since I have one last exam to complete – REG – I'm not sure if I should invest in a CPA review course for REG???? Hummm…I hate to spend more money but I hate not to if it will help me pass. I know I've read some reviews where exam takes have used cpareviewforfree alone and have passed, but I'm nervous as I need to pass REG by 8/31/11 or I'll lose my Audit credit. :~{ I definitely don't want that!!!

I used cpareviewforfree and CPAexcel for BEC and I can't remember if I used Becker's book as a reference, as well. At any rate, I passed. Unfortunately, there's not a sale going on for CPAexcel. And, Roger's too expensive for one online course (almost $500).

Thanks, in advance, for any feedback. Good luck studying.

Oh, and I thought of using NINJA REG notes and the flashcards you get as a member for this site along w/ cpareviewforfree. Has anyone here been only using these two sites, by some chance, and been successful when they sat for REG????

rce-80, I have failed REG twice, so I would recommend purchasing Wiley MCQ for $87 bucks! You might as well invest a little since this is your last exam and you want to do it right! Good luck! You're almost there

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

    Hey guys,

Quick question about the SIMs for REG. When filling out a tax form, when should we enter ZEROs and when should we leave a line item blank?

    Thanks!

I took the very last section of the CPA exam… the so-called new beast… REG… last Saturday. To be honest, I really don't feel very good about it, but to those who are concerned about using Becker, here are my thoughts… I have only used Becker… I don't think there were any surprises on the exam… No matter what study material you using, cover every little information provided in it, i.e., don't blow off anything thinking it's not important. Based on my experience, there were some topics that were heavily tested. I put in more than 160 hours studying for REG and felt quite confident going into the exams, but it's the wording of the questions/answers along with getting confused with the rules that threw me off. As for the SIMs, I followed an advise someone posted on the forum. Try to leave as much time for the SIMs… you really need that. Not saying to blow off MCQs, but allocate time appropriately. I left about 1 hr and 15 min for the SIMs and tackled both of the research questions first (yes, I had 2). Again, it's the wording of the SIMs and not understanding what is required that is confusing. The key is not to get nervous… that definitely won't help any. Use the research tabs to your advantage… it will help quite a bit.

I don't even want to make any guesses/predictions on my scores… praying really hard for a positive outcome…

    Good luck to all!

    Hey guys,

Just checking in. Since June I have read the Wiley book (except for the last 4 chapters-oops) and taken notes and am on R6 and R7 this week for Becker. I am shooting for a two week review beginning on the 17th since I sit for the exam on the 31st. Truth be told, I can't seem to keep the contract and sales info in my head straight. I know I need to finish all the mcq for Becker and then head to Wiley. I always feel more confident using the Wiley testbank. I will also use cpareviewforfree too. I am struggling though. Here's why: I passed two exams last window and now am facing the last two this window, I feel the pressure to finish as well as frustration since I feel like I know nothing on REG. I am also feeling the pressure to pass since financially it would be great to start working full time again. Why is it that everything crashes, breaks, melts down at the same time??!!! haha.

Then to top it off I am struggling on the homefront. This is mainly the reason I have not been on the boards. There is so much truth to the fact that nobody knows what this process is all about except for the other people who are traveling the same path. 🙁 I was doing the mcq's last night and couldn't score above 40%. Couldn't pick the right answer to save my

life. I am hoping that the REG Yaeger cram I ordered will!!!!

Best of luck this week studying.
