    Becker question. Am I missing something or do you have to copy the lectures to your hard drive by each indivdual chapter? I think the same is true for the questions. Last night I loaded some fo the software and each chapter lecture prompted me to copy from the disc. I find it hard to believe there isn't some sort of “copy all” function.

    AUD - 86 (08/10)
    BEC - 83 (11/10)
    FAR - 90 (05/11)
    REG - 78 (11/11)

    @Letitbleed–I had to copy each lecture separately too.I think it's a Becker thing. Did you use Becker for all your other parts?

    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60

    I wanted to reread the becker chapters before my exam but I am running out of time and don't think I'll be able to. Do you think I should prioritize the tax chapters (1-4) as opposed to the law chapters? I perform stronger on the law section for the becker progress tests. Is tax more heavily tested than law?

    Just a quick hello as I'm just beginning REG prep. Took FAR the other night (of course, I didn't fell too hot about it afterward), but am moving forward with getting ready for REG on 8/10.

    Happen4areason, how many days until your exam? I'd probably stick to your notes you've taken and lots of MCQ. I've failed REG twice, I really believe it's because I was memorizing the questions, and took beyond terrible notes. I've purchased Wiley this time around. Did you happen to see Jeff's video he posted yesterday?

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

    Peanut, you used Becker both times that you failed REG correct? I also ordered the wiley test bank just to get some different questions thrown my way this time—looked over my old progress tests from REG and I was scoring consistently in the upper 80s the week of my exam, so I mustve had the same issue as you in terms of memorizing questions. That and the terrible sims of course!

    What did Jeff's video say?

    @happen4reason—I did exactly that, focused on the tax stuff and not so much the law chapters(3 chapters essentially make up only 17-21% of the exam). I would recommend it, in my case I still scored stronger on the Law portion, if anything maybe I shouldve spent even MORE time on the tax stuff.

    @ BakedCPA , I used Becker for all my sections and passed on the first attempt. My advice for REG would be to make sure you have covered ALL the material as although every exam is different you have no idea what will on your test. If you have a good grasp of all the areas then I think it will certainly increase your chances of getting a passing score. I do not think there is any review material that covers everything as I did have SIMs that tested topics not covered by Becker , the thing is to leave enough time for the SIMS and use the research option if you need to.

    We all learn in different ways so you just have do the reviews and see what areas you are having issues with and supplement those areas with additional information from other sources. Personally I just used the net for any area I thought Becker was too brief on. I also used the free CPA review website to get a different set of questions. Good luck on your exam.

    In 2011 Wiley it says in the text “$500 floor for casualty losses occuring in 2009 and 2010” but then some of the problems use a $100 floor and some use $500 in the answers? and the IRS website says $100 for 2010?

    I think its supposed to be:

    2009=$500 floor

    2010=$100 floor

    2011=$100 floor

    Can someone please clarify or confirm this? Thanks!!

    That is correct CalCPA,

    One important note, in gen'l I have found the reg test to be tough but fair. there really is one right answer. in other words you will not see a question that uses both the 500 casualty amount AND the 100 amount as right answer choices. If you're stuck, there is a flaw in your comprehension of the question.

    Hope that helps!

    CalCPASoon, use the $100 floor.

    @CalCPA

    I was confused about this same question in April when studying for REG. I double checked the IRS website and saw that the number was $100. I sent an email to Wiley re the error and received a reply about two weeks later that they were correcting the problem. By that time I was done with REG so I didn't check to see if they fixed it or not online. If you're using the CD, though, it would still have the error.

    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80

    Just scheduled my rematch with the impossible Sim containing beast. Decided on Aug 26th, the downside is I short myself 5 days of studying by not sitting on the 31st, the upside is that is 5 less days I spend making my eyeballs bleed and stressing over this–plus its a friday so I will have that night as well as the weekend as my “reward”, which will make me study even harder(I will hopefully make up those 5 days either way). Hoping this will be my final trip to Shoreham Place, I never even want to drive on that street again after this!

    Good luck to all, including the ones who already sat for it this window.

    Thanks Peanut and BakedCPA. I am going to try and focus more on Tax since that is my weaker area. I also did just get Jeff's notes and I am planning on taking a look at CPA review for free. Hopefully this will be enough!!

    just took REG this morning. i feel like i just failed a test. i have never failed anything before in my life. i wasnt sure on a bunch of the MC questions (but they were pretty much what i expected). it was the SIMS that killed me – i seriously think i got a -0- on one of them. lets hope that was the “throw out one”. ive been thinking about it ALL day.

    i studied using becker self study and cpareviewforfree.com. i feel like i studied enough, but i just dont know how the test went.

    it was rough. one of the SIMS totally came out of left field – like everyone said…. i just really hope i passed, but its definitely not guaranteed.

    Hang in there kaacpa—sounds like a lot of experiences. I actually didn't beat myself up too much after mine, which lessened to sting when I found out I did in fact fail. Also used becker self study—and studied a lot! Also my first time failing anything ever, but maybe you didn't fail! Either way keep your head up, its a tough exam.
