maciocejParticipantI received the updated 2011 material from Becker for the REG exam. I am also taking 1/15/2011. I think its safe to assume; however, that the examiners will not put a lot of new content on the first exams for the year. There may be a few questions for the new materials, but not enough to be “really” concenred with.
The REG exam, I feel, is the hardest section to study for just because it is somewhat dry, and there are a lot of little details to remember. I've been trying to view the videos for a chapter, reread/type notes for each topic of the chapter, and work the MCQs for each topic after I have reread/typed notes for each topic in the chapter. It is tedious and takes some time if you are trying to finish all the MCQ in one day for a chapter, but it seems to be working.
The only difficult thing will be going back to review previous chapters.
BEC - 79
FAR - 80
AUD - 98

mslzqParticipantI scheduled on 1/15/2011 for REG. I am using the Becker 2009 book and Becker 2010 video. For those who have both 2011 version and previous version, could you tell me that if there are a lot of differences? If there are some, I would buy the 2011 version. Thanks

AnonymousInactiveAnyone using Yeager Home study for REG 2011? How do you like it so far? I just ordered it and was wondering what the total hours of the course are? Seems like the Wiley book for 2011 has tons of Modules, i went through some of the business law sections but its so hard to read. Its like an encyclopedia! Crazy! Hopefully the homestudy breaks it down easier.
I'll probably take in late Feb so hopefully i'll get it by xmas and then start studying that week. Last battle for me so I'm going to try to go all out and pass first shot!

fundaccountantParticipantHello folks. I am taking Reg in January 2011. I am studying using Becker 2010 edition, which has helped me pass AUD, BEC, and FAR. Most of the material is based on 2009 IRS guidelines. Will I be ok using this material for an exam in January? What i'm fearing is that the guidelines mentioned on the actual exam will be for 2010; am i correct in assuming this, or should I just stick with using the 2010 edition.
Thanks.

AnonymousInactiveTo everyone asking if the 2011 Becker materials for REG are different than the 2009 or 2010 this is what I have noticed so far…please keep in mind I have only made it through 3 chapters…the biggest addition is Business formations has been added to Ch4…many of you may (or may not) know that this was taken out of BEC and moved to REG…so if you have old Becker BEC materials you can study them there…also, Tax Exempt company taxation is back on the table…it disappeared for a few years and now is fair game once again….as I notice more I will post
Hope that helps

lvall1700Participanthello all – thought i should post about this. I used becker 2009 to study for FAR – took it in late November and just found out I passed. woohoo! But my 2009 license expires this month (it took me a while to get motivated) so I ordered the becker 2011 set for the other sections. I ended up getting a 2011 FAR book and DVD that I dont need but why do they make it cheaper to buy all 4 than 3?!?
I havent started studying REG yet, but i did a look through and I didn't see one IFRS box like I did when I looked through the 2011 FAR book – there was a lot of IFRS boxes in FAR. If you're just taking REG (and none of the other sections), I personally wouldn't worry about upgrading anything. I would've used my 2009 REG book if I didn't have the other 2 sections to take….but i heard AUD was going to be a lot difference. Abe seems right though, there's now a big section on tax exempt organizations and unrelated business income. I'm sure there are resources online available that can give you IFRS information for REG without having to pay full price on 2011.
Just an FYI that you might know already – you can still get 2010 paper updates for Becker online and you don't even need a user ID or password. I did this for FAR and it worked out well. Not sure if they're taking that down at the end of the year though.
Good luck to everyone studying! This looks like a lot of memorization……..

AnonymousInactiveHas anyone fallen off the wagon with studying? I managed to pass both BEC and FAR, but now I am so tired and exhausted that studying for REG has become nearly impossible. The holiday season has made it far worse and I feel like a definite scrooge. My goal is to take REG in the middle of February. Any advice on staying motivated and tackling the exam?

AnonymousInactive@Emily
I look at it this way…the sooner I take the exam and pass….the sooner I will never have to study for the test ever again…I've spent the last 2.5 years in school for a Masters and now reviewing for the exam and I want my life back…that is all the motivation I need….I actually wish I could take the exam now to get it over with…it is totally unacceptable to have 4 out of the 12 months blacked out of testing…just my 2 cents

marcuswadedavisParticipantAlmost done, you might look into getting the gleim test bank…its around 50 bucks per section, and I just purchased it for Reg…over 2,000 practice questions!
