JamaicaBroParticipant@ Almost , I took Reg in Feb 2011 , my last paper and used Becker and got a 92. What I also did was to supplement the grey areas from Becker with material I found on the Internet . I did not like how they dealt with the large ancillary material on Federal Tax Procedures , so I had a lot stuff I researched on the net to get a better understanding as I am not from the US. You are right that nothing prepares you for the REG sims , I had one that was on a topic that was not covered at all by Becker . What I did was to research the area and although it was lot to learn while in the exam , I had like 45 mins left as I was done with everything else. The SIMS are tricky so u have to give yourself enough time to do them properly . That means you have to be prepared to move through the MCQ quickly and accurately and I think that is what helped me. Well good luck and do not despair if you see the weird questions , just read carefully and give it your best shot. I used becker for all my exams and passed them all on the first attempt , but as I said you have supplement with additional material where you see Becker being too brief. I also did the CPA Free Review online and sometimes you see questions or topics not covered by Becker.

kmartellaParticipantI'm just starting to study for REG and feel that there are so many numbers in the book (exemption amounts, maximums, minimums, phase out etc). Are we more likely going to be tested on the actual numbers or just the concepts? Thanks!

aggies21ParticipantJust got done with my REG re-take…..I feel so confused about how I did. The first testlet was manageable. I flagged 3 or 4 for review, but was able to reason through them. The next testlet was unbelievably difficult, I must have flagged 10 at least. Then the 3rd testlet was super easy…which worries me. The SIMs were a crap shoot, like always and I only had 1 research question (which I got.) I have no idea how to feel about it. The easy 3rd testlet worries me a lot. Any feedback?

lmfb52ParticipantI took REG on the 5th and walked out thinking, “That's not the last time I'll see that exam.” I felt the same way with Audit, but the difference between the two were the sims. Atleast with Audit, you couldn't screw up too bad because they had answers to choose from for the sims. With REG, it was a total guess on some of the questions. Mostly everything was tax and not business law, and I had felt really confident about the latter going in, so was highly disappointed when it was mostly tax questions. With AUD, I could tell my last 2 testlets were much harder than the first, but with REG, they all seemed to stay at a medium difficulty level and I didn't feel like a knew most of the answers. It seems like everyone feels pretty bad about this exam, so I am hoping they will just have to throw out lots of questions. I'm taking FAR in July or August, and hopefully I'll be done! Good luck to those of you who still have to take REG!

RidingTheWaveParticipantI just took REG yesterday. I'd say it was manageable..moreso than the first 3 times I took it. I had a sim that made absolutely no sense when I took the exam in February. When I took it yesterday, I got the same EXACT simulation. It makes me think that it's an experimental, but who knows. Its bizarre that I'd have the same exact simulation on my February and May exam.

mgirdenParticipantHi everyone,
I'm taking REG next week and am trying to develop an exam plan. In the past, I've allotted 45 minutes for each MCQ section of each exam (and the rest of the time to the simulations) but I'm not sure how much time I should give each REG section since there are only 24 questions in each section.
I'm also unsure of how much time to leave for the simulations, since it seems like everyone is rushed for time with the 3 hour limit and the fact that the sims are now worth 40%. I'm thinking if I give myself 30 minutes per section I'll have 1:30 to finish the 6 sims (15 minutes each). Is 30 minutes even realistic for the MCQ sections?
Any help would be appreciated!

kb24Participant30 minutes/MCQ section is realistic. Remember, 40% of the exam is business law, and, most if not all of your sims are going to be tax. Plus, probably some of your tax MCQ won't require calculations. I was really worried about time before I went in and ended up with a little over 1 1/2 hours for the sims. I'm not saying the MCQ were easy (far from it), but there were a lot of them that it wasn't going to make a difference whether I looked at them for a minute or for an hour — I either knew the answer or I didn't.

Accounting PilotParticipantA question for those of you studying for REG. I am 2 days from my exam, and I feel like I still do not know the basics. I am using the Wiley test bank and I keep getting questions on topics I have never seen before or remember little about. On average, I am scoring between 60% and 70%.
My question to anyone is, how did your practice tests go? Did they in general make you feel stupid or did they reinforce your confidence? I guess the gist of what I am asking is, am I about to waste $300 or is this feeling fairly typical? And please no sugar-coating, if you think I am just REG-stupid then confirm my suspicions.
