@CPA2bsoon, I have no experience in tax what-so-ever. That's why I picked REG first because I hate tax with a passion. Both individual and corporate tax classes in school killed my GPA. Basically the point is if I can pass it using just Becker, anyone can.

I had a hard time understanding a lot of the tax stuff when I first started going through the material. However, most of my actual learning of the topics happened when I started working on the MCQs. Once cannot understand these concepts in a vacuum. Once it is applied it tends to be a bit easier to understand. Just make sure to go through the explanations of each MCQ you get wrong carefully and take notes.

Could somebody please explain alimony recapture for me?

I'm not understanding the Wiley solution.

Bob and Sue Stewart were divorced in 2009. Under the terms of their divorce decree, Bob paid alimony to Sue at the rate of $50,000 in 2009, $20,000 in 2010, and nothing in 2011. What amount of alimony recapture must be included in Bob's gross income for 2011?

    a. $0

    b. $23,283

    c. $30,000

    d. $32,500

Just schedule REG for 10/6, hoping 2nd times a charm not 3rd. Then it's on to FAR – 74 really hurt. My question to everyone is – do you think it is better to cram for 3-4 weeks or stretch it out for 5-6 even 7 weeks of study? This question is for the full time workers out there. Thanks.

    FAR 69, 74, 78
    REG 69, 69, 69, 82
    BEC 75
    AUD 76

@KGC11210 – I would say spread it out. I took 7 weeks for FAR, using that last 2-3 weeks for review. That way you can take your time to dive into the details, but still refresh every topic right before the exam. Trying to cram in fewer weeks can cause unnecessary stress, and you risk running out of time. Plus, your brain can only retain so much information after working a full day.

    AUD - 95
    FAR - 92
    REG - 79
    BEC - 93 DONE!

    Hi guys,

I just want to ask for some advice regarding review materials. I'm using CPAExcel and passed FAR and AUD plus I'm waiting for my BEC. CPAExcel was a good study materials for the first three sections but I find the REG part and specifically the Federal Taxation as frustrating because the orientation is much more like for those who have already gone through this subject. I can honestly say that I'm not having a “review” for REG but actually a “first time learning experience” because I earned my Accountancy degree in a different country and I found that none of my tax knowledge from there applies here in the U.S. Any suggestion on what additional materials should I invest to? Typically, something that can walk me(someone with zero-based knowledge) through the basics of the subject(taxation) so that I can grasp my CPAExcel material the next time I read it.

    Thank you!

@tsokoberst I would say Roger or Yeager. Their lectures have more of a classroom/teaching setting.

Today is not a good study day. I'm $#%&ing everything up. Began the AICPA released mcq's and have performed decently on those (3-5 incorrect per 40 questions). Decided to repeat some partnership and s-corp mcq's and I'm getting waaay too many wrong. I was nailing these last week – wtf is going on.

Maybe I should just reread some Ninja Notes for now…I notice I start to hit a wall after ~130 mcq's.

Anyways sending my best wishes to those who take REG this week or next week. May all your studies pay back with a number in excess of 75!

Does anyone know if you can use the authoritative literature tab on the exam to check tax code for simulations? It is hard to remember all the items for AMT etc.

    @momof4

you can use the authoritative lit for the simulations. a lot of takers find they have some extra time on the sims and use it to look up potential answers in the authoritative lit. This is a pretty good idea if the time is available to you.

    FAR: 7/2/12 - 93
    AUD: 7/23/12 - 94
