AnonymousInactiveIs anybody completing the tax forms as a SIM for practice?
Not sure if worth it.

Marivy22Participant@Cashmoney,
If you have Wiley testbank, focus on working and understanding those SIMS. You can always use the tax forms as a reference to identify where the numbers go, but based on my 2 REG experiences Wiley tb's SIMS were the perfect practice.
Done 😉

fastpass2cpaMemberFour days til testing… And I've hit a motivational road block. What should I focus on in teh final days? It seems, by most of the comments here, that business law is not tested much. Should I just focus on R1-R4 for Becker for the rest of the time?

Sgt_BilboMemberI've taken REG twice, and both times, I got heavily tested on business law. I would review R1-R4, but focus on the fine details in R5-R7, and definitely be familiar with R8, as I did have a few questions from there, but I would say more than half of my exams were Business Law.

NapkinThiefMemberI took REG recently and felt EXACTLY the same way (I wrote about it in the REG Exam Experience thread). However, now that I've started studying FAR I'm getting a similar feeling.
(This is a copy and paste of what I just wrote in the FAR thread, but I think it applies the same to REG)
I keep reading these posts and everyone keeps talking about the sheer amount of information and how ridiculously hard it is to remember everything.
I think I've been studying too long, because I've reached the point where I agree with everyone on the first part – it is an absolutely asinine amount of information – but rather than “remembering all of this is going to be hard,” I'm slowly slipping into, “There's no way I'm going to remember most of this, so… I'm not even going to bother to try.”
Rather, I'm just going through the Becker lectures haphazardly and then basically “learning” by doing the problems. It is literally impossible to memorize very little detail, and feels like a waste of time anyway. I've started just focusing on the core concepts, and as for the other stuff – if it sticks, it sticks, and if not – well I've got a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right!
(Because lets be honest – even if by some act of god you manage to remember the 10 exceptions or rules that you need to know to answer some asinine question you get, odds are its going to be presented in some ass-backwards manner such that you can't figure it out anyway!!)

KatydidMemberGood Morning All. I've been using Becker consistently but was wondering if I should add the Wiley test bank to my study materials. Who uses Wiley and what has your experience been? I'd like to have more questions as I can usually remember the answers to the Becker after completing them once or twice.
And who else is having a hard time with this commercial law? Holy crap, I almost feel like I'm learning a new language. I'm glad I'm not going to be a lawyer. I'll stick with accounting.

AnonymousInactiveJust here to vent. This exam material is way harder than anything I have seen. Forget FAR, this trumps it, everything has an exception and an exception to the exception. There is no general theory here, it is strictly memorization on the vast majority of material. Venting over, now back to getting 50%'s on MC practice tests.

I used Becker and supplemented with the Ninja Notes. REG was extremely hard to study for and when I stepped out of the exam I was sure that I failed miserably, but I actually did very well. If you are looking for more questions to review you can always go to cpareviewforfree.com. There are 647 additional questions to review. Also go to the Becker website and review the AICPA released questions under the updates. I have also even Googled AICPA released questions and was able to find several other sources that way too. Some of those questions actually ended up on my exam. Hope this helps!!

nimmle02Member@katydid, I only used becker and I ended up doing very well.
For the weeks of review I just skimmed through each of the chapters and then took the progress tests for that chapter. For the topics that I knew I was weaker on I would review more thoroughly and go through some of the hw problems. And remember for the sims you have the tax code at your disposal, so if you have a decent grasp on most topics and utilized your time well you will have time to go through the tax code and double check as many answers as possible.

futuremdcpaMember@Katydid – I did both Wiley & Becker. I did Becker over 3-4 times, and Wiley (only tax).
Becker did a GREAT job in REG. I mean, when I took the exam I was cussing everyone in my way after. It was a foreign language, but somehow I ended up with an 85?.. I scored strong in every category, except Sims(honestly, I guessed).
Point is, Becker is GREAT. I would suggest you try to read over the tax & ethics, and redo all tax questions. As far as law, my exam was mostly non-law, but otheres here had a lot of law, my suggestion is to not really read it, but look at the MCQ's explanation even if you get it right/wrong, and understand why that is correct, and the other 3 are wrong.
I would say that I didn't go over the SIM's in Becker. The exam sim's are different, and honestly nothing will prepare you for those. But I will tell you this, if you really understand the tax portion of the Becker book/MCQ's, you will be good.
Good luck 🙂

AnonymousInactive@ sequin45, nimmle02 & futuremdcpa …did you guys have any experience in the tax field ? because i have no experience with taxation and i feel like i am not able to understand most of the chapter 3 from Becker… i am having one of those “what the hell was i thinking” moment right now.

I do have experience in the tax field. I work as a tax planning specialist for an investment firm. However we only deal with personal tax planning. Which the REG exam deals with very littler personal taxation. From my exam experience I had very little taxation MCQs. From what I can remember I had a lot more in the law area. But the exam is hit or miss on that stuff. I would definetly suggest not worrying about individual taxation much and focus on the corporation and partnership. I also had very few calculation questions which Becker prepares you by drilling them into your head.
