nolifecpaParticipantin example 1, we have to calculate NOL starting from “taxable amount”
in example 2, we have to calculate NOL starting from “NOL before offset”
hope this helps!

musicamorMemberI agree with nolifecpa's awesome analysis.
Just some food for thought: I have taken REG 5 times and don't remember having one single question on NOL's other than know the 2/20 rule.

musicamorMember@aartim11…I took the exam today and feel better about it than my previous 5 attempts, but you never know. This part of the exam has been a struggle for me. It was definitely brutal.

Marivy22ParticipantHow is everyone doing??
I have been working MCQ's and SIMS on Wiley's testbank and listening to NINJA audio for the last few days. I've also completed Becker's lectures, MCQ's and made my own notes.
Based on my score, seems that I am ready, but I have 10 days to go.
The plan….continue with MC's and SIMS until I get sick of them.
Any ideas on how to prepare for the SIMS?? I have a good understanding of the material, but you never know.
Good Luck to all!!!
Done 😉

musicamorMember@Marivy22–I would say continue MCQs nonstop until you want to puke. For Sims…I recommend Wiley online testbank and cpareviewforfree.com. You can purchase sims on paper from them for pretty cheap. But keep in mind that the sims on the real exam literally come from nowhere. I actually had a sim on AMT!!

AnonymousInactiveHey guys- so my test date is two weeks from today. I am doing the 2012 Becker review and finished up my the last (8th) lecture today. I was wondering what would be the most prudent use of my time until test day – should I reread the book and focus on concepts I am hazy on before working MCQs? I am hesitant on purely working the MCQs because I'm sure like everyone else, once you work them a few times the correct answers jump out at you and can give you a false sense of your understanding. Also, is it necessary to buy additional materials (i.e. Wiley, Gleim, Ninja, etc.)? I don't get the impression that the people in my MAcc class bought materials to supplement Becker, but then it seems everyone on this website highly recommends buying additional materials. Anyways, all advice on how to spend my last two weeks would be great! My internship ended this week so I am a full-time studier now!! Thanks guys

smac88MemberTaking Reg May 18th and am looking for some advice. I went through Becker readings, mc, and sims twice, as well as used the wiley review textbook. I really want to pass this exam so I can be finished before I start work in July. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to focus on or supplemental review that can help me for this exam. I have been preparing for a while but with my grad classes i had to push my test date back so I am hitting a wall where I cant even look at the materials i have reviewed. Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

musicamorMember@cpahopeful2012 and @smac88…I would suggest you do nonstop MCQs…keep that progression going so that you can respond to questions with ease and finesse. I would stop the “learning” at this point. You have studied and know the material, now it's time to reinforce your technique. Your time management is CRUCIAL to winning the exam. Practice simulations as well. If you don't have enough simulation material, go to cpareviewforfree.com and purchase their sims…they are very helpful! Sims can be anything from due dates of different tax returns to calculating AMT! I got both of those on the exam I just took. Best wishes to you (and me!)! LOL.

Marivy22Participant@smac88. we are in the same situation, only REG left. Good Luck!!! I will post something about my experience next Sunday.
@musicamor, Thanks for the recommendations. I have been working non stop MCQ's for 2 weeks now I am sick of them. I thinks repetition had been the key for all other exams, and hope this is not different. Hope you get a beautiful score on the 4th or 7th.
I will keep working MCQ's and SIMS on Wiley testbank. I left Becker behind a week ago because I started to memorize the answers. Studying hard for my 80 😉 Wish me luck!!!

AnonymousInactiveHi all,
This is the first time that I am writing on this forum, but I can't say that I haven't spent time reading other comments before 😉 ….I am really strugging with Regulation, I've taken it before and have gotten very close to passing. I am using 2011 Becker and 2012 Wiley book along with test bank. Wiley has a section on property (contratcs, deeds, title insurance, motgage, leases), however the Becker 2011 material does not have any of this. Does anyone know if its worth beating down this area? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

musicamorMember@CPAannoyed…I would say EVERY area is fair game for the REG portion…with regard to your specific question, if I had to focus on one area more than another; I would say focus on contracts, mortgages, deeds, and leases.

Justwanta75ParticipantI have my REG exam scheduled for May 26th. I just took BEC on Sunday so will not start studying REG until tomorrow (giving myself a break tonight). I normally average around 28-29 hours per week when studying. Do you think this is sufficient time to adequately study for REG?
