Recommended prep time for REG is 5-6 weeks @ 20 hours a week.

72 is good Michelle, I'd say that's a passing exam, plus you have a few more days to make those weak areas your strong points! Just keep hammering those MCQ and you'll get it! 🙂

REG - waitingNovember 8, 2010 at 7:39 pm #258614AnonymousInactiveJust took this morning. Questions weren't too much different than the prep for Becker. A lot of questions seemed to be a bit more of the random stuff that Becker didn't cover as heavy, however. Simulations were really hard, nothing like what I saw on Becker at all.
Time to sit and hope. Can't wait for this to be over!

I took REG last week and agree with your testing description 100%. Did you notice your MC testlets getting harder or not? My test was such a blur, but from what I remember I don't think my testlets got obviously harder like they did for FAR and AUD.
Let me know what you thought. Thanks!

Gleim ReviewNovember 9, 2010 at 2:14 am #258616michelle119Participant@bwhiting/sfcpa – without going into disclosure, was there anything that you could point me in the direction of for the simulations? I know becker stresses that it is only tax related topics, is there anything beyond this that you have heard of?
Any other pointers, my weak areas right now are security interests and negotiable interests…. I'm going to try and do a ton of mcq's on these topics in the upcoming days? I've been getting around a 75% for any mcq's I do and I'm not really getting any better so I'm starting to get nervous… I used Wiley to supplement Becker's with and am using cpareviewforfree.com at work….

November 9, 2010 at 4:38 pm #258618AnonymousInactiveI honestly don't think there was any one area that tricked me over anyother. There was a blend of a lot of the detail, and some things in greater detail than I looked at. Without going into detail – Just make sure you're rounded with as many topics in Becker as you can.
I would say if you are using Becker, Wiley and cpareviewforfree you should be in good shape. I was about the same score-wise on MCQ's as you are right now, and have always been around there on all of my past tests. I'm sure you'll do great!
I noticed somewhat of an increase in difficulty, nothing like I had seen in AUD/FAR though. I feel the same way, it all just blurs by the end of the test. By the time I am out of those things my brain is so jelled that I can hardly remember the day of the week let alone the content!
Time for the worst part – the waiting game. About 5 weeks to kill – no more tests (hopefully), have to find a new hobby!
November 9, 2010 at 11:01 pm #258619michelle119ParticipantThanks bwhiting! Off to make some dinner and get about 3 hours of studying in tonight…. I know I'll have to find something to occupy all my studying time with, maybe I'll finally start to train for a 5k…

@bwhiting25 hopefully you'll make the cutoff for wave one and will have a much shorting waiting game!
@michelle good luck this week.
Back to studying, if I can finish up section 5 tonight I'm back on track from falling behind Sunday night. 9 more days!

REG - waitingNovember 10, 2010 at 2:41 am #258621michelle119ParticipantAlright just took a simulated exam and got an 82!!! So excited, the only weak area I have (which I say is under 75) is R6 which is commercial paper, which I still don't understand… I guess I'll be looking at that mainly tomorrow night! Off to reward myself with some tv 🙂
FAR 7/2 - 88

REG 11/12 - 96November 10, 2010 at 1:45 pm #258622AnonymousInactive@Michelle119- Nice! I like the simulated exams much more than Becker's “Final Exams”. I think the final exams for Becker tend to be the most difficult questions they can possibly find. I have never done that well on any of them, for any section of the exam (IE FAR i averaged around 60% and got a 90). They always caused me to worry. The simulated exams, however, give a large mix of different difficutly questions and nail down the areas to review. I think they are one of the best ways to nail down your final few days of reviewing.
Once this junk is all done we can start a 5K training suport thread and all keep touch on how life without the CPA exam is going. First thing I plan doing next week is starting a gym membership – I don't even know what to do with my newly founded free time. I will not get too excited until I see the word “Pass” on the Illinois Board of Examiners website.. and then I will finallly be done. Oh – and that darn ethics course.
November 10, 2010 at 2:07 pm #258623hmubeenParticipantI took wiliey's final exam yesterday and got 73 🙁 I'm really stressed out right now because my exam is on 11/15/10. Any advise would be really appreciated.

November 10, 2010 at 11:31 pm #258624michelle119Participant@bwhiting – I have no excuses on not training for a 5k, I live in an apartment complex that has a “gym” a few cardio machines and some weights, but enough for me… I also have to still get my 150 credit hours, but not ethics course in mass that I know of… I'm really hoping that I get a surprise next week with my score but trying not to get my hopes up….
@hmubeen – I have been doing Becker final exams and get around 70's, I don't think I ever got much over a 75 on my other parts, so if Wiley's are like Beckers you should be fine. Also you will probably be more diligent in checking answers and such on the day of the exam, Best of luck!

REG 11/12 - 96November 10, 2010 at 11:39 pm #258625hazeyCPAParticipant73 is not a bad score at all, you have plenty of time to polish reg…don't stress…focus on your weakest areas and just keep trucking through questions. make sure you understand why you are getting them right or why you are getting them wrong. regardless, make sure you understand entity taxation because the AICPA guidelines favor this as a popular test issue big time. the trickiest topics, in my opinion, are calculating gains and losses. If I were you, I wouldn’t even focus on the simulations for practice…the ones on the real exam are always so much harder and its only worth 20% anyway. Read and memorize the rules and it will help you greatly on the sims. Also, it’s a good idea to be familiar with the forms (1040 w/ schedules, k/k-1, m-1, trusts, etc. 1041? Maybe)
In terms of the law, AICPA says it is generally less tested (about 40-45% if I remember correctly). The big topics and in my opinion most important are sales and contracts. Although probably less tested, secured transactions, commercial paper, and bankruptcy can be tricky so again be familiar with the rules so you don’t get tripped up.
If you do that you will pass no doubt. dont forget to take a break from studying and eat some ice cream or something.
get those dopamine levels up a little.

November 11, 2010 at 1:40 am #258627mike01Participantbwhiting25,
I took Audit and BEC back on May 11 and May 13 and I made the first release of scores. I took REG today and I am hoping I make the cutoff for the first release this time. You should be in the first release unless you get a new simulation. I don't think I got new simulation today because my simulations today were like the simulations I had for Audit and BEC. My simulation for FAR I believe was the new type they will have starting in January. Do you feel good about your REG test? I feel pretty good but I am afraid to think I passed.
