Recommended prep time for REG is 5-6 weeks @ 20 hours a week.

Florida and Hazey,
I felt the same way, one sim just completely blew me out of the water, I couldn't even figure out how they wanted me to present my calculations/answer (my scratch paper looked better). My multiple choice questions were not all too bad, except a couple questions I had never seen such crazy fact patterns. Some questions I knew the topic inside and out and the answer choices were bizarre.
November 4, 2010 at 1:37 pm #258584hazeyCPAParticipanthaha it sounds like we had the same test…I knew a lot of the topics stone cold, memorized the flash cards…read the book…was able to answer the practice MC questions and do the practice simulations adequately enough …I always walk into the tests knowing the sims are going to be ridiculous and that i am just going to try to do what i can – as far as the MC, some of the answers to seemingly easy questions were really just out there …i was able to deduct it to 2 on a few of them but ultimately had to take a best guess…I went back to the becker text to see what the answers were and the text didn’t even have them.

My husband dropped me off at the testing center for that one , and when he came back, I think I was wandering aimlessly around the parking lot mumbling to myself that there is no way I could have passed with missing everything on an entire simulation…we both screamed when I got my 85…you guys passed…probably some of you in the 90's. Remember, some of the crazy mcq were likely pretest.

What was your REG experience like? I know you came out on top with an 85, which is awesome…..just wondering how you felt about the testlets/SIMS (questions getting harder, how many questions you guessed on, etc.). Did everything go well for you except for 1 SIM or was the whole test a struggle?
I feel mediocre/crappy about the whole thing. I didn't feel great about any one area, but I don't think I did poorly on any one area either. I was able to complete everything even though that involved rushing through a couple SIM tabs that I know are mostly wrong. Just felt generally discouraged afterwards.
Thanks for your input!

Thanks in advance!

November 4, 2010 at 10:27 pm #258590AnonymousInactiveI was very familiar with the corporate firms from work experience, however I would definitely take a look at the 1041 and 706. You never know what they might throw at you.
November 5, 2010 at 12:02 am #2585912010PleaseParticipantIf I could have walked out of the testing center with MCQ alone, I would have felt pretty good about my overall performance. The MCQ probably did become more difficult; I don't really remember being concerned with it though. However, I didn't feel that I got every question correct, but the ones I felt uncertain about, I chalked up as likely being pretest.
When I went into the sims, it was a different story. I KNOW I missed at least one of the entries on one tab on the first sim (checked when I got out), and I didn't feel great about several other areas (especially the research tab), but I felt very good about my WC on that sim. I consoled myself by thinking I still had another shot on the next sim.
The last sim…the whole sim was on a subject I had not reviewed and had not had since being in tax classes in 2007, so I was just basically stabbing in the dark. When I checked on how to do the calcuations after I got home – I realized I must have missed all of those questions on that sim…I flat out did it WRONG. I also was not able to do the reasearch tab on the second sim, and I left the WC completely blank – I didn't even understand the question.
I left the testing center angry at Becker for dropping the ball on me in that one area. I felt as if I just wanted to give up if this is what the rest of the tests would feel like…my husband convinced me to push ahead with BEC (bless his heart). I convinced myself that I might have a chance to pass based on the MCQ and the things I got right on the first sim, but I felt it would be close. I was truly surprised but extremely happy with my 85.

Well, what do we have now…..2-3 weeks yet until REG scores come out? I think Jeff predicted the 22nd, but I guess that all depends on when BEC comes out because we all know REG will be last!

Gleim ReviewNovember 5, 2010 at 3:48 pm #258594AnonymousInactive2010Please –
I had the EXACT same experience with FAR when I took it back in July, and ended up with an 85. I really feel that somehow these exams are designed to pass the candidates who really prepare well and understand the material. Or maybe we are just really lucky!!

Yes, I strictly used Gleim. Spent about 75% of my time going through the online review course and the other 25% taking quizzes on the test prep software.
I averaged about 170 hours of study time per test (40 more for FAR and 40 less for BEC).
I'm in IL too….are you using Gleim as well?

Gleim ReviewNovember 5, 2010 at 7:25 pm #258597Lori80ParticipantHi,
I took Audit Oct 30. I studied using Becker. Found the material in the MC familiar, but kind of confusing. The simulations were not so easy either. I am not sure I have passed, I felt I had to guess in a lot of questions. Can anyone give me some insight as to what is the best method of studying for Audit, I have a hunch I failed it.
Also currently studying for REG for the 2nd time. Can someone please help me with some advise as to how to review again? My exam is by the end of this month.
Passed FAR and BEC already.
Thank you very much
