    @ Florida,

I took REG about a week ago, and used gleim's test prep questions to supplement for Becker in review. The gleim questions were far more difficult than anything I had seen on the exam. I almost regret spending time on them instead of drilling some small topics in Becker on Individual Tax.

that's good to hear, these questions are a little ridiculous. I just two questions that I just skipped completely (well I mean I looked at the answer but then thought to myself “yeah no… not learning that”)

The first was on excess alimony calculations…. please tell me you guys didn't memorize that calculation???

The second was calculating a corporation's tax liability, but they didn't give you the tables! They expected you to have it memorized! Is that weird or just me? I didn't think we had to memorize the actual tax rate tables :-/

some of the gleim questions are absurd. I skipped anything that went in to great detail (alimony calc, corp tax rate calc, all the individual credit calcs). It seems to me sometimes Gleim tends to stress unnecessary details.

    Florida_Candidate,

I used NOTHING but Becker for REG. No cpareviewforfree.com, no Gleim, no nothing. ONLY Becker.

I thought it was way more than adequate.

I think you guys just convinced me not to buy the Gleim bank and to probably just stick with Becker and to drill their MCQ instead. 🙂

Do I need to be concerned with form numbers for individual taxes? I'm comfortable with the “normal ones” but Forms like 2120 for multiple support declaration and Form 8332 for the custodial parent's waved right for exemption I haven't really ran a crossed during tax times so I haven't got those memorized.

Took REG this morning. Now it's a waiting game! Actually, no time to worry about waiting… taking FAR on 11/30. Just glad to have the REG exam behind me (for good hopefully) & feeling pretty good about how it went. Good luck to all who are testing soon!

Just took reg this afternoon…first tetslet was pretty easy, the next got hard…forced myself to finish mcq's in 1.5 hours…which in retrospect was a bad idea because there were quite a few q's I'd liked to have spent more time on that I just breezed through because I was terrified of running out of tme…the sims were pretty easy, I think my sims were ok, just a little iffy about the actual presentation of my sims-ie putting all the stuff on the spreadsheet-because I calculated everythng manually on scratch paper-does anyone know if that will negatively affect my score? the written communication wasn't too bad either, but I still got out of the exam with 1 minute to spare feeling very very overwhelmed and exhausted:(

Ps I did feel like 1 particular area os tax was constantly tested/

The BEC studying starts ths week….ugggh:(

Without violating any ethics codes…….. I would just recommend listening to the approximate exam coverage percentages provided with your study materials (mine was Bisk) and definitely study those heavily weighted areas the most. My Bisk study materials notes the following:

Ethics and Professional & Legal Responsibilities 15-20%

    Business Law 20-25%

Federal Tax Procedures & Accounting Issues 8-12%

    Federal Tax: Property Transactions 8-12%

    Federal Tax: Individuals 12-18%

    Federal Tax Entities: 22-28%

I wish I focused on these weights a little more when targeting my studying. Federal Tax for entities happens to be the last few chapters in my Bisk materials and is weighted the highest. I studied this area last and didn't spend as much time on it because I wanted enough time to review everything. I wish I would have studied the chapters in the order of weighted percentage instead of in the order the book provides. For my next exam I am definitely going to use this strategy of studying heaviest weighted areas first.

So overall, I would say the exam was fair, nothing I encountered was foreign to me, and the advice given by Bisk on which areas would be tested heavier is very helpful advice. Hope this helps 🙂

I apologize if this has been asked and I am just missing it on the forum, but I am studying for REG with 2009 Becker materials, just wondering if there have been any heavily tested areas of change that people are noticing in 2010 materials, specficially any changes to tax laws, $ thresholds and phaseouts, etc?

    Hey CDep,

Just make sure you have a few of the nos. from 2010 like the section 179 depreciation, because those nos. change frequently…you don't need to worry about phaseouts and other nos. that change every year because the ACPA tries to write q's that they can use for a long time, w/o having to change them annually, good luck studying!
