jeffKeymasterThis is for people taking their exams in the April/May 2010 testing window.
Recommended prep time for REG is 5-6 weeks @ 20 hours a week.

The GaJoneParticipantJust got home from my REG test today and I can't sit down right now because my @$$ hurts so bad from getting kicked by that exam. That was beyond brutal.
AllenA and havetopass,
I had the same thing on my 2nd WC. Never saw that before. The part that really confused me is of the 3 things they listed and said “make sure you talk about this”, I thought 2 of them didn't even apply to the question they asked, lol. I also could not find anything on the question in the research tab and do not remember Becker covering that topic at all. Brutal.
I thought the MC sections were brutal as well. The first section was easy, but the 2nd and 3rd sections were just insane. I was probably confident with my answer on about 15-20% of the 2nd and 3rd MC sections. I know it's good if your 2nd and 3rd sections are tough — because that was the case for me for FAR and AUD as well — but man, that was on a COMPLETELY different level. I'd say a solid 1/3rd of those 2 sections were on topics that I had not even come across in my Becker review, and the majority of the rest were on minor topics that are barely covered by the Becker material.
I keep using the world “brutal” but that's really the only thing that comes to mind when I think of what I just went through. Brutal, brutal, brutal.
FAR: 81 (1/20) AUD: 88 (2/27) REG: 91 (4/19) BEC: 75 (5/20)

AnonymousInactiveGood work, theGaJone. We are all in this one together now and can all feel equally crappy about how the exam went. I wonder if anyone leaves the test thinking, “Man, that was really easy.” I honestly don't think so for REG and FAR. I felt confident when I left audit and BEC, but nowhere near thinking it was easy.
Now, if we could only fast forward five weeks and get our scores…

VicDiMoneJrParticipantGaJone,
Took the test on Friday afternoon, and I think I had the same WC as you. It was strange that they listed the specific points to mention, as I had not seen that on Audit and FAR previously. I really hope that my dart throwing on the other parts of the sims and the MC was pretty accurate…
FAR - 11/24/09 - 78
AUD - 1/21/10 - 64
BEC - 2/26/10 - 78April 20, 2010 at 3:22 pm #237573
AnonymousInactiveAHHH! AWFUL exam, just awful. I felt the most prepared for this exam. I passed BEC and FAR the first time, but recently got my failing AUD scores. That definitely motivated me to study much harder for REG, so I felt as prepared as I could be. I thought the MC were more difficult than my practice MC, but the simulations were AWFUL! I left there feeling bitter. I thought FAR was the beast, but I definitely felt much worse after this one. Gees!

mh1086ParticipantAHHH! (to second you BShep)
That was really awful. I was hoping to feel better about this one than I did with FAR when I left. The MCs were very tough and the Sims didn't go well either. I think in the past the MCs have been the reason that I passed, as I think I just did well enough on the Sims to get by. This time, I don't think either one went well enough 🙁 Although I always feel terrible after leaving the testing center, I can say that I definitely felt more confident after leaving AUD than this one. With FAR I really didn't know what to expect. This is very disappointing! But, at least I am relieved that it is over for now. If I fail, then I won't have to look at this stuff again til June or so.
Any BEC study tips from you guys? I start my class for that tonight, and will only have about 3.5 weeks to prep for it. I hope it goes better!!!!
Good luck to anyone still studying for REG!
FAR 82, AUD 91, REG 83, BEC 85, ETHICS 98

AnonymousInactivemh1086,
It seems that lots of people are having this overwhelmed feeling after taking the REG exam this window. I passed my first two tests just above the dangerous 75 line, so I guess that makes me more worried… I'll sure be glad when the results come in (for better or worse)!
As for BEC, I just watched the videos, took my own notes, and did lots of MC questions. Definitely be sure you memorize all the variances and ratio formulas. I probably focused too much time on learning economics since it's tested the least, but I didn't have a very strong background in it. Also, be sure you don't get confused over all the IT positions and their segregation of duties. In the practice exams, I realized I had overlooked those IT guys. Good luck to you!

Sigh….. 🙁

suzzette1ParticipantI am taking Regulation next month and I have been using 2009 Wiley materials for my review. Please advice on what topics do I need to focus on my last 3 weeks of review. Did anybody use Wiley 2010 software? Did it help in your simulation portion of the exam?
BEC 2/8/10 - 75 (studied hard & prayed less)
REG 5/15/10 - 88 (studied less but prayed hard)
AUDITING 8/9/10 - 79 (studied hard and prayed hard)
FAR 11/30/10 - 79 (studied hard and prayed hard) Thanks GOD! I'm DONEApril 22, 2010 at 2:15 pm #237578
NJCPA2BParticipantsuzzette1- I've taken REG 3x (73,74,80) and I used the 2009 Yaeger lectures with the 2009 Wiley book. I only used the Wiley CD to practice some (not all) law MCQs. Each time I took the exam there were totally different tax MCQs and SIMS…so you have to know everything, but I would spend more time studying Partnerships and Corporations, you should know these areas VERY well……
BEC=77, FAR=78, REG=73,74,80, AUD=70,69, 84 DONE!

AnonymousInactiveHey all! I am taking REG in the first week of May. I started studying April 12 and have a pretty decent amount of tax experience. Did people with experience find the tax part of regulation all that hard? I feel like i need to put my focus mainly in bus law. Any suggestions or ideas? (I am still watching all of the tax lectures from Yaeger HS so I don't miss anything)
Oh and who is glad tax season is OVER for 9 months? Me, Me, Me! Now time to finish this exam! 2 parts down, 2 to go!

AnonymousInactiver u sure u can be ready in just 3 weeks?? yaeger advises u give yrself more time.
April 22, 2010 at 4:13 pm #237581
AnonymousInactiveelsie, I get to study 8 hours a day at work. I only have gift and estate tax lectures left and all of b law. do u think its enough time?
April 22, 2010 at 4:26 pm #237582
AnonymousInactiveIf you are strong in tax, especially if you are given 8 hours a day to study, you'll do fine on the exam. I don't think the time span (in weeks) is important as long as you put in the hours. If you were to study for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, you should be close to ready in two weeks (in my opinion).
If you only have estate and b law left to study for two weeks, you'll be totally fine. The estate stuff in the study material is way harder than the estate questions on the exam. In fact, the estate questions that I had were very, very simple. B Law sucks. There's no way to get around it though. Keep in mind that only about 20% of the test is B Law. Have a basic understanding of the B Law principles and you'll do fine. I don't remember them asking anything that was in-depth regarding business law (though that was just my test).
Good luck!
