This is for people taking their exams in the April/May 2010 testing window.
Recommended prep time for REG is 5-6 weeks @ 20 hours a week.

Megan,
I don't believe the simulations are adaptive, actually. I'm in the same boat though because I took it last Friday and my 2nd simulation didn't seem bad at all. The first one was virtually impossible though, so maybe that's why. But I am almost 100% sure the simulations are not adaptive, so it doesn't matter how well you do on the testlets or the first simulation for the 2nd one.
June 6, 2010 at 5:38 pm #238216SoanxiousParticipantLucky Shot – sorry to hear about your 71. Keep at & you will get it – you were so close.
The sims aren't adaptive. They are what they are and sometimes you get lucky & sometimes you don't.

June 7, 2010 at 3:34 pm #238218wanttobecpaParticipantI just took my exam on May 28th, and kind of left behind on my time. I got timed out on my simulation part since I took too much time on my MCQS. I was able to finish my first simulation with reasonable answers – I could not do much on my second simulation – any hope on passing ?
June 7, 2010 at 3:35 pm #238219wanttobecpaParticipantWhen should I expect the scores to come out if I took my exam on May 28th, 2010?
June 8, 2010 at 4:21 am #238220AnonymousInactiveHi,
I'm new to the forum. I decided to do Becker FAR & REG at the same time (this June) and would like to sit for both in July. I realize now how much info Becker books really have and I don't think I will be able to do the readings for both. Do you think I will be able to pass if I read FAR but only listen to lectures for REG (and MCs for both, of course)? The reason I would like to focus on FAR is because I have a higher chance of passing it (I'm not a big fan of tax). At this point, I would rather pass only FAR and leave REG to a chance than fail both. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks a ton!
June 8, 2010 at 3:06 pm #238221AnonymousInactiveHonestly, I think it's very risky to take FAR and REG in one month. They are kind of huge, plus IRC and GAAP are very different sets of rules that deal with the same issues.. I mean – it's different treatment for one issue on tax return and financial statements. May become very confusing. I would take FAR and AUD in the same window – auditing is less material and deals with GAAP just like FAR does. And again, FAR and REG are huge, I think they should be approached with all the effort – books and lectures and MCQ's.
June 8, 2010 at 6:56 pm #238222KCinNYCParticipantBig shot – I did the same as you are going for – all 4 in one window. I read the becker books through once each, didnt do any lectures and then just did tons of MCQ's and simulations – used the Wiley CD's. I have a strong background in accounting/Auditing so didnt focus on FAR or AUD as much as BEC and REG (except governmental on FAR).
As others said there is some overlap betwen the topics so doing them together can work to your advantage – although not much between FAR and REG. More betwen FAR and AUD and also some between REG/AUD and REG/BEC.
You can always move exams around closer to the date as well – bring the ones you are confident with forward and push others later – especially if you start your first one early in the window. REG was definitly the newest material for me so pushed that one to last to give myself the most time. Was worth the small fee to give myself more chance of passing.
I definitly think its possible – Good Luck!
BEC - 4/3/10 - 85, FAR - 4/17/10 - 87
AUD - 5/15/10 - 82, REG 5/24/10 - 76June 8, 2010 at 9:54 pm #238223AnonymousInactiveThanks Anna and KCinNYC! I really appreciate your comments. I think I'm going to go for FAR in July and BEC and AUD in August. I would love to pass all 4 of them in one window but I don't want to make myself miserable either. I have a strong educational background in FAR (took both advaced and gvpt and non-profit acctgs this spring–just graduated in may) so I should be good to go after Becker! Thanks again!
June 9, 2010 at 6:32 pm #238224AlexinytownParticipantI took REG on May 28th, the latest I could take it because of previous work issues. Because I took it so late, how long does anyone think it will be before I might receive my score? I would like to get started on AUD or FAR but because I only partially finished the last sim, I'm debating if I should begin studying or wait until I get my REG score to find out if I need to retake it.
Thanks

They said wave two will be released sometime in the middle to latter part of June.
However, I'm sure that Jeff has a more accurate estimate than that.

June 9, 2010 at 9:11 pm #238226AnonymousInactiveJune 12, 2010 at 10:21 pm #238227laschndrParticipantI just started preparing for REG. It is NOT fun. I am using Gleim and am a bit more than halfway through reading the law outlines. It has been rough! The outlines are long and (believe it or not) dry. Part of the struggle is that its summertime in Chicago and I am having a hard time focusing. Its super tough sitting inside and reading when its sunny and warm outside. I pray for rain every weekend! I've already had to turn down 3 chances for free tickets to Chicago sporting events, and its only early June!
When I take practice MC tests, sometimes I get a 60, sometimes I get an 85. Haven't even touched the tax stuff yet. I am scheduled for July 10 and am starting to think I may not be prepared in time. I don't want to make excuses and delay the test because I don't think I'll be ready, but I also don't want to go in unprepared and end up wasting both time and money. I took BEC (passed) and AUD (feel like I failed but don't know yet) and unfortunately have left myself with both REG and FAR to take by the end of August, which leaves about 6 weeks of prep per test. I really want to get them both done in the next window so I can still retake whatever I need to before the end of 2010, but like I said, don't want to rush and be unprepared and fail.
I know we're all in this boat to get things done before the 2011 changes. It adds a little more pressure to the whole process. I can't wait to get this thing DONE! Funny thing is, I don't think I'll ever work in public accounting. At this point, the CPA designation is a credential for me, and potentially something that will set me apart from others in competing for employment opportunities.
Good luck to everyone!

June 13, 2010 at 6:18 pm #238228SoanxiousParticipantLisa – It was a tough week in Chicago to study with all the events and everything going on. I seem to study better though in the summer than the winter (although I do want to be outside – at least it is generally sunny though). Plus at least we come home and it is light out. I hate leaving in the dark & coming home in the dark! I have been trying to study at least 1 to 3 hours every night and I do most of the day Sunday and part of the day Saturday. I have learned that if I sit down do an hour then a household project on the weekend I feel like I am keeping up at home & with my studying. Although I am getting nervous for my Reg score that will hopefully be here next week (sat 5/12), and having a harder time concentrating today.
I studied Reg in 07 and felt I knew the tax stuff better then & the law / ethics better this time. We will see how much it hurt me, but I ran out of time. I used all the reschedule time I could. I swore with my 6th Audit retake I am not sitting until I feel ready. I haven't even scheduled and I am paying my payment coupon on the second to the last day. I sadly paid for far a few months ago and let my IL app fee run out, but I don't want to pay for it and be forced to sit unprepared again. I think part of this is all strategy. I can't wait to be done, and I am determined to get there one day – before 2011
I hope!!!
