REG – Bisk Users Please!!!

I need to vent concerning REG using Bisk. If anyone can offer some words of comfort, do not hold back!

I have taken and passed (86) FAR with 6 weeks of hard studying of drilling MCQ and listening to the accountant God, Bob Monnet. I also took AUD, which I’m not feeling too good about because I feel Bisk didn’t represent a lot of what was on the exam 🙁

Anyway, Bob Monnet was awesome in the lectures. I did not mind watching them at all. Then came REG. I finished the first chapter, contracts, and the instructor is Jack (powerpoint says John?) Norman. He is the WORST!

He reads off of a screen, shows no emotion, stumbles over words constantly, and is just extremely boring to listen to. The first 6 lectures he just dumped a load of definitions with horrible, if any, explanations and few examples. I haven’t started the MCQ yet but I feel REG is hopeless for me listening to this guy. Bob had a way of making it stick.

Someone tell me it gets better, or isn’t as bad as it seems 🙁

PS: I miss you Bob! Teach REG!!!!

Unfortunately, you are completely wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. You couldn't be wronger.

Jack Norman isn't the worst. Wait until you get to BEC. I'm glad I saved it for last, because the lecturer for financial management, Reese, is freakin' awful, and Louis is pretty bad too. The thing about the other lecturers (including Norman) is that they are prepared for their lectures, and they focus on what is likely to be on the test, whereas the book just seems to cover every topic under the sun. I personally believe that it may be possible to just watch the lectures and take notes, and then memorize those notes, and still pass the exam, if you're an above average student. For my REG, I left 5 chapters undone, yes FIVE. I ran out of time and only watched the lectures and then memorized my notes.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably buy Bob Monette's review course that he put together with a CPA partner of his. I'd be willing to bet it's better. I love that man. Bisk oughtta give him half their profits because they'd be nothing without him. I chose Bisk based solely on the testimonials from CPAs with the Big Four that loved him and credited him with their pass.

If you want to contact me off board about tips for the software and such, my email is in my profile. And don't worry about AUD. You're probably fine. Given your previous score, if you left feeling awful, you probably did well.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

I don't plan on leaving any chapters undone. I like for things to make sense, hence why I liked FAR. There was rational behind debits and credits and reasons for doing things. I guess it also helped that I'm an auditor and sat through one busy season thus far. It is hard for me to memorize straight definitions, which so far it seems like that's what business law is all about.

Your post gave me some hope, however, I now dread BEC, haha.

I didn't know Bob started his own review course. I will be looking into that if I fail any parts for any reason.

You might be getting an email from me closer to test time. Thanks again, and your scores are great!

Hi @katiekanton, I like Bob M. too, I learned so much from him in FAR and AUD using BISK lectures. Who was the lecturer in REG? It's just so hard to follow different lecturers. The CD I'm using is an old version which I got from craigslist (I know!). Any notes from your REG lectures you can share? Scheduled REG on 11/30 and I have not studied anything yet.

I had the hotspot videos bisk did for REG and with the exception of the first one (which was some AWFUL woman) it was all Bob. Maybe try and get your hands on those?

    @Sandra

I looked at the Bisk hotspots. I think they are too expensive in my opinion. If I bought the ones for REG, they would run the cost of just buying an entire REG section from Yaeger.

I only have two weeks left till exam time and I don't feel ready at all 🙁

I had no idea how $$$ they were. Some nice dude sent them to me for free and luckily they were all still current.

You can't beat free:) That is the only reason I'm using Bisk. I got the software for free through a scholarship. I am hoping it will get me through REG but it is looking doubtful.

I assume you didn't use Bisk as your main program? What did you use? All of your scores are great by the way.

I'm just finding it hard to remember all of the little differences between Corps and Individual Tax. Some things are the same like charitable contribution carryovers but then some is different like % limits. It is driving me insane!

Roger CPA review. Can't say enough good things about that dude. Although he's obnoxious and doesn't cover his mouth when he sneezes.

I know it is sad that I am already thinking about which course I'm going to use if I fail (I should try to be more optimistic), but I am torn right now between Yaeger and Roger.

I've seen some of Yaeger's videos on YouTube and he does a good job of explaining things. Does Roger SHOW you the concepts? Also, I heard Yaeger isn't as great with AUD. Did Roger represent what was on your audit test?

Bisk, although Bob did a great job of explaining things, didn't really represent what was on my exam. I was getting 80% on most of the questions but when test time came, I didn't see anything that Bisk taught. Guess work like crazy! Hence my score.

I hated everything about AUD but roger did a great job preparing me. For all sections really. I loved all the lectures- I learn by having someone show me and he did just that.
