MemberDoes any have a guide or something to help them study the different basis scenarios that they’d be willing to share? This is the one area in REG that I keep having nightmares about.

MemberSo this is longer than I thought it was going to be, but I’ve been really happy with the community and received some good insight on this board that I really wanted to share my story and why its worked for me.
I've been fortunate with my schedule to have it look like I only need one month to study. A little background on me. I my undergrad is in Finance, and I have an MBA, but have been working in private and non-profit accounting for the last 6 years.
FAR – I took FAR first because I heard it was the most daunting and because I knew there was a good amount of material that I would be able to relate to (adjusting entries, financial statements, charitable donations, etc). For FAR, I actually started studying in June/July, but fell off the study path because we have a 6/30 fiscal year-end an didn't pick it back up until late September.
BEC – I took a shot with the extended December window and decided to take BEC. Had some people tell me this was more “Finance” so they thought it wouldn't be too bad of a study in only 3 weeks. Plus, this is the shortest test in terms of studying material.
AUD – Working for a non-profit university, I was blessed to have 2 weeks off in December to get some extra studying in. I crammed the last week or so (I actually thought about rescheduling). I identified the topics that I struggling with and really hammered those and was fortunate enough to get a lot of those questions. Taking AUD in the middle of Jan allowed me about 6 weeks for REG, which I'm hoping is plenty of time. I JUST WANT IT TO BE OVER! – that's what my wife says too 🙂
I've been using the Yaeger videos with the Wiley book and Wiley Test Bank. I've been pretty much following the same plan for all of my tests. Watch all of the videos, and take notes. I skip over any part of the video where they are doing MCQs. I think this is part of Jeff's Ninja strategy as well. Once I watch all of the videos before starting MCQs, I re-write all of my notes. This helps me remember it more, but also allows me to read my handwriting so I can review later.
Also, the BLITZ videos are great. I've used them for all 4 of my exams – it helps me remember the main points of the topics. I used the same strategy as Wiley videos, take notes, then re-write them. After this is done, I do as many MCQs as I can. Whenever I get a question wrong or if I take a lucky guess, I write down the answer/solution/reasoning for the question. And you guessed, it I end up re-writing these also :).
The last couple of days before the exam, I go through the 2012 and 2013 recently released questions to see how I stack up.
Working about 45-55 hours a week, I usually try to get in at least an hour and a half in on the weekdays and at least 6 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. I did a power weekend of 21 hours this last weekend.
Passing the exam is all about finding what works for you and putting in the time. Its definitely not something that 99% of the people can do without a whole lot of studying. Taking the advice of many on this board, it’s a small piece of your life/career; don’t make it last any longer than you need to.

MemberPorter Thank you so much !!!!! You have no idea how much i appreciate the time you took to write this up. Your study plan is really good and i think i will follow it. I am lucky enough to work for a company for 40 hrs/wk and sometimes i even have down time where i can study in the office so that should really help.
I am planning to order complete set of wiley product for $449 on Wednesday. How much are the Yeager videos for all sections? I looked through their site but didnt see the option to buy only the videos.
I did see some of their packages come with Wiley book you can read online (they charge extra if they ship you the book). Did you just buy the package from Yaeger? I didnt see that the Wiley online MCQ comes with their package.
Keep in mind i am paying for the material my self so i am trying to keep the price as low as possible but at the same time i want to pass everything 1st time if at all possible because studying 100+ hrs and having to do it all over again would really discourage me.
What package did you get? Which one do you recommend.
I am sorry if i am derailing your thread, i didnt see a option to send you a private message.

ParticipantIf you are going to order Yaegar, don't order the Wiley sets. Yaegar uses the wiley books and I think it still comes with the testbank.

MemberYes i just talked to them and they said if i only want the videos they will charge me $1200 for all 4 parts just for the videos and 1500 for everything so it would be cheaper to go with them. I am just trying to see if the videos are worth that much because i am having to pay this out of my own packet.
I am the type of person that would go to class go to lecture and pay attention ask questions and leave classroom usually with full understanding of the material. I never had to study much maybe 1-2 hrs to prepare for exams but i would full pay attention in classroom and try to understand the material. I never had to teach my self by reading books alone (this would be the first time with wiley.) so i dont know if paying 1100 more for the videos is wroth it.

MemberNo worries, I'm happy to help.
I'm lucky enough to have a boss that is a CPA and wants me to get my license, so she approved my study materials up-front. Because they reimbursed me up front ($1,800) , I did the Yaeger at your own pace package. I thought this was one of the few, if not the only vendor that allowed me to only get the material when I was ready rather than getting everything at once. I chose the flash drive option because I knew I would be traveling and was actually able to do some studying on the plane, airports, hotels, etc without bandwidth issues.
I think Yaeger did a good job with the videos of only focusing on the items that they believe are important in passing the exam. They aren't doing this to have everyone get a 99, their goal is a 75. I have a buddy that took a long time to pass all of the exams, I think he told me he passed REG three times (!). He ended up passing using Rogers, so you might give that a look as well, he seemed pretty happy with the instruction.
