REG and the "law" section

    Hey everyone,

I wanted to get some insight from some people who have perhaps taken REG recently! Overall, how difficult are business law questions/sections on the CPA? A coworker of mine said they didn’t watch the Becker lectures on B-law and mainly just did MPQs. I take REG in the beginning of July, and I am just curious as to how much effort i should put towards b-law if it is in fact easier than the tax section?

Any help is appreciated! I finally escaped busy season and never ending clients and I want to knock off REG this summer!

I took REG yesterday. I think that they say that business law is about 20% of the exam, but I would be surprised if it is even that. I don't know how much more I could say without being “illegal” though.

I use Fast Forward Academy books, and read all of the text. More than half of the text for REG was business law. If I was in a time crunch, I would consider not reading the business law portion of the book and just doing MCQs and flashcards to learn the business law material.

I just started studying for REG, and it's crazy how the B Law prep content comprises about 70% of the material when it's only supposed to be about 20% of the exam. I recently decided I should schedule my prep in proportion with the exam content, rather than the study material. I already read all of the B law chapters over the past week. Most of my focus now will be on tax!

Mine was a TON of law compared to other stuff. Like 50% but it was pretty broad stuff and that wasn't too hard.

I agree with @lindrobe..I took my exam yesterday and hardly saw B-Law questions. Definitely not 20% of the exam. I recall seeing more Professional Standards questions.

    AUD: 84 - Oct. 2013
    BEC: 83 - Feb. 2014
    REG: 91 - May, 2014
    FAR: 68, 96 - Oct. 2014...DONE

    Here is the breakdown:

Ethics, Professional, and Legal Responsibilities (15% -19%)

    Business Law (17% – 21%)

And since they don't test those in the SIMs from what I've heard, it seems like they would take up a large portion of the MCQs.

FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)

The business law questions were decent on my exam. I didn't watch the videos. I just took notes from Becker's online book, then attempted all MCQs twice. I was averaging 80-90s on tax, 60s on blaw and 80s on ethics going into the exam. Basically, I knew my tax well, but blaw enough to pass.

I wouldn't half ass it though cause you never know for sure.

    Passed all sections.
