    No.

They don't grade on a curve for any section, according to the AICPA's CPA site.

Technically the exam isn't “curved” in that they don't take the highest score in the testing wave and add however many points to that score to get to 99, and then add that same number of points to everyone's score that sat in that wave.

However, the score you see isn't a percentage correct out of 100. So a 75 is not a 75% correct. I'd imagine if you actually got 75% correct the score you saw would be in the high 90s, if not a 99. They have not disclosed how they assign the score you actually see.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

The 75 score is not a percentage correct, that's what they say.

The thing is how is the 75 score determined, in light of the pretest questions which do not count for your score?

NOTE: This is my opinion, this is not something the AICPA may confirm.

Six sims, one doesn't count. So five only count for your score.

3 WC's for BEC only – one doesn't count. So only two counts for your score.

72-90 MCQ's. 25% are pretest. So 54 to 68 count for your score.

Take the above and add it all up, if you get 75% of what counts….I think that is the score.

So if you get a 75% correct on your total exam, you'll get a 99 score only if 100% of wrong answers were pretests.

You COULD pass the exam with less than 75% correct if most of your wrong answers are pretests. Or you can get all the pretests right and still fail. That's the random element to the exam.

Based on my experience, the curve on REG is very small. It's a lot smaller than the other 3 sections.

@bob – Your explanation is not plausible given that the questions have different weights and the testlets are adaptive based on how well you do on the first and second testlets.
