So with my AUD exam being next week on the 20th, I plan on taking REG immediately afterwards and begin studying that following Monday. How many weeks should I give myself to prepare for this exam? I work full-time but I do live at home and I can get 3-4 hours of studying everyday during the week plus 6-8 hours on Saturday and Sunday. My main problem is focusing so I would say I’m really only focused 75% of the time I put towards studying in a given week. I’m using Becker and will Purchase the Ninja Audio so I can listen on my commute to work. I was planning on giving myself 6-7 weeks, is that sufficient or should I add another week or so? For those of you who have studied for REG, please advise on how many weeks it took you to prepare. I know this is all subjective but I’m just trying to map this out real quickly.

    AUD: (65)(66) 77
REG: (66) (48) destroyed me mentally.....
    FAR: (68) (66)(69)(71)
    BEC: (63) 75

If you can guarantee that you will be studying at least 3 hours every weeknight and at least a solid block of time on Saturdays and a little on Sundays, I think you'll be in good shape. My rule of thumb though has been a week per chapter plus a week or two of review, so if I were you, I'd add on another week or two to that at least. But that's just me. If you're unsure, I'd say to add another week or two on because you'd rather spend the time now and ensure that you pass rather than having to take it over again.

And some other words of wisdom: put most of your focus on the first 5 chapters of REG in Becker. Get those down first, then focus on the main topics in 6-8. Hope that helps!

    BEC - 78 (8/30/13)
    REG - 73 (1/31/14) - 76 (4/7/14)
    ***GETTING MARRIED 7/19/14***
    FAR - after the wedding
AUD - also after the wedding

Study time varies drastically person to person. I have seen 140 hours as the recommendation for REG by review courses. If you have a masters in tax you may need less. If you are a senior tax accountant you may need less. If you haven't taken a tax class in 9 years and do your taxes on turbotax like me you may need more time.

I am planning close to 200 hours for REG, because it is the exam I most fear.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I spent about 6 weeks on REG. I would say 6 to 7 weeks is a decent amount of time esp if you have not see the tax book in while.

    CA Candidate. 05/27/2014 ~ 786/110
    I am done!!

I'm going to be using Becker and I'm used to spending a full week on each chapter and then a week or two for review. Just I want to leave enough time in the next testing window so I can have time to review AUD incase I fail. Hoping I won't but no one can ever be sure they won't.

Can anyone give me a general difference in the Becker lectures from AUD and REG because I found that when I read the material myself I understood the material the same amount as I did when watching the lectures and it didn't take me 3-4 hours to read through the material. I know AUD and REG are COMPLETELY different but anyone who's used becker for both sections would you recommend saving time and not watching the lectures or were the lectures helpful?
