I use CPAexcel and did not use the research function while studying REG previously other than for the SIMS where you have to just look something up for the actual research SIM (like “what code section deals with the limits on start-up costs” or something). However, after taking REG (and failing with a 69) and getting crazy topics that I was totally unfamiliar with, I thought it would “behoove” me to learn how to use the research tool so I could perhaps look something up that I had not studied (which is probably EVERY SIM) and at least try to figure out what the hell “adjusted ordinary gross income” means. So this time around, I’m still using CPAexcel but I also bought the online Wiley test bank but I can’t seem to get either program to allow me to really use the research function fully. CPAexcel only gives you the portion of the IRC that is relevant to the SIM and that doesn’t really do you any good if you are trying to practice finding and looking things up. Then with the Wiley software, it is only giving me like 5 code sections that have nothing to do with the topic.
So…..my question is this…..does anyone know of a REALLY good research practice tool/option that is an exact replica of what you are provided with on the exam?
I hope this question makes sense! Thanks for any input.
