    Hey everyone,

I am officially a week and a half into studying for REG and feeling super overwhelmed with all the deductions, credits and phase outs. I have seen several other places not to be memorizing phaseouts. I am just wondering best study hacks to keep everything straight. I am using Becker and through R1 and half way through R2. Thanks for all the support. You guys keep me going.

It's worthwhile to know what items can be phased out, as well as the differentiating between refundable and non-refundable credits. I wouldn't go crazy over AMT either, just know the items.

Honestly, after lecture/reading, MCQs tied it together for me. I remember my first REG MCQ set ever I shot for 20 or 30 MCQs since the course started with Individual Tax and its so broad, and thought I learned the material really well, and scored a 25 % or something. Eventually practice makes perfect and busting MCQs up will force you to retain the information tidbits you'd never thought you'd actually remember.

Don't sleep on BLaw. Phaseouts aren't as important as the materials make them out to be because you have to be super wealthy for them to apply. Be able to differentiate how different business structures are treated for transactions. Ethics is a bigger part than you think but I didn't find it super difficult. MCQ review is sufficient for it.

For what it's worth I've been overwhelmed at some point by all of these exams. REG's biggest key is to read the questions like a lawyer because the most minute details change everything. Sorry for the double post. Good luck and you can do this!

One of the most important phaseout/exception rules to know is probably the “Mom and Pop” exception.
