Oh man REG is the light at the end of the tunnel….is it daylight or the train?

I have REG on 5/29. I am very behind right now or at least I feel like I am.

I’ve been through CPAExcel’s notes on business law and ethics once via handwriting and then I typed them. I have done SOME of the sections of Wiley’s business law questions. I had to stop the mcq’s to ensure I had time to get tax notes taken. So I don’t feel but 75% on business law.

I changed to Wiley for Tax because I just like Wiley better. I am on the very last section of Wiley right now and will finish it tomorrow (having done all the Wiley tax questions 1x already). I plan on typing my tax notes by mid-week and then hope to get through all of the Wiley questions two times more before the exam on 5/29. If I still have problems with topics, I will rework those questions more.

I have each day this week before work, lunches, after work and then Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday to go through the mcq’s and I will also work a couple of the SIMS (AMT and 1065).

I hope that’s enough. This test cycle has been an endurance test….I started light studying on 4/1 but had to stop because of work demands, tax season picked up, and my Mom passed away the day after Easter. You think it would have to get better after that huh? Well this week’s fun is that I found out that my Brother has a brain tumor that’s growing again and came | <– –>| that close to getting into a fist fight with my neighbor and the cops had to be called (he has a problem with alcohol).

I’m telling you, if I can pass this exam this time….I’m going to revise my status back to ’10 feet tall and bulletproof’ ! I will have earned it. I may not pass but I think I have proven my salt by making it to the end of the race. I’m a 6’3″ 295 pound man and I might scream for joy and then cry….honest to the Lord above I might just cry at work or wherever I am if I pass this one. I am spent, I am dry emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, etc. etc. etc.

But on the good side, I did get an award at work on Friday from a Senior Executive.

Awesome news about the award at work. You definitely have a full plate…more than that, a full buffet! I keep dreaming of the day I finish. I know it will involve many tears. Do you find typing the notes works? I was thinking of trying that as I have already written them once but I don't feel like I got what I should have out of them. It just felt like a time exercise and I was like hurry up and write these out so I can move on M/C questions.

Typing the notes most definitely helps and here's why:

First, I always print the notes in my handwriting. Why instead of cursive? Because you print much slower than you write in cursive, for most people anyhow. So your mind has to think the thought several times before you actually complete the sentence.

As for typing the notes, same thing. Think about the phrase ‘Jack and Jill went up the hill to pitch a pail of water”. Now try typing it and try to keep a mental note of how many times your mind must remember the thought to complete it to the end, it is actually several times.

I have to type the notes because I have been studying so long, it all seems like months ago that I studied portions of this exam. Literally like it was last year. Even tax that I have been studying for a couple weeks now seems like an eternity.

It's what I have done so far on the other two portions and did quite well, of course I didn't have the distractions I've had this time.

Great advice! I am going to give it a try this time. Like all candidates I want to pass, but for me own reasons, I need to pass BEC. It is my monster and I have been at this too long. I need to be mom again, and get beyond this test. A break is everything my family needs and they are barely hanging on til the 26th. I am hoping a six week break before I start FAR will be the rest everyone needs to get us through FAR starting in July. Good luck to you!

@CPApending- Since you scored an 87 and 88 on AUD and BEC, respectively, then I don't think you will have any trouble tackling REG.

I hope you're right CPAMan….but all those phase outs and carryforwards and carrybacks are all blending together. Hopefully this week's review will be what I need. Lots to do.

But I am proud, despite some crazy stuff going on at home I put in a solid 10 hours Saturday and 4 hours Sunday to complete my goal of being done with this REG run through.

I'm balancing the excitement of possibly being done and conquering new territory (never having passed REG the first tries) with the nauseating feeling of possibly having to restudy it during vacation. I need the break!
