Can you make a nondeductible IRA contribution even if you have zero taxable income? I know you can’t for regular or Roths. Since you can contribute to a nond. IRA no matter how high your income, it makes sense you can also have zero and still contribute.

I’m helping my Expat friend do her return. Since the FEIE wipes her income out to where her return shows zero, now she cannot contribute to an IRA. I’m wondering about the Backdoor approach where she would make a nond. contribution, then immediately convert to a Roth.
