Hi guys … I will be taking REG on Monday ! I have not prepared for the exam …I can’t postpone it … I know almost nothing in tax … never took a business law class !!!!

I watched the first three lectures of becker and watched 1/2 of R5 …

I was browsing the introduction and closing videos of lectures to see what is usually heavily tested… and i know at least that the ethics part usually is not tested a lot !

I was hoping that maybe you can give me the areas that i should focus the most on …

Mission impossible … but i have 2 full days ! I might as well try !

Thank you very much ! 😀 > Wish me luck !

    two to go !

Well- here is my advice… but it comes with the usual disclaimer… I have not taken any sections and as such this is based on my opinion only as well as my experience with the CMA which is a much different test.

I think many people fail because they spend too much time studying over too great a timeframe. If I had to take REG in two days here is what I would do…

    1.) find and take adderall

2.) lock myself in my condo and dedicate any remaining waking hours to the exam.

3.) I learn a lot through the videos, but I would skip them in your scenario since your time is simply too limited.

4.) crack open the book and grab a highlighter (jeff will say to write your own notes- think about whether you think that will help you)

5.) highlight anything you don't know or don't think you will remember from reading it once.

6.) once you are done with the book- start over and focus on $hit you've highlighted

7.) for any concepts do a few problems and make sure you really understand it.

I think whether you make it or not will depend largely on how well your short term memory works. Certainly cutting it way close, but its worth a try.

how did you do on the two you've passed already? Did you pass them first try? With decent scores?

Sidenote- I have a friend that passed REG with a weekend of studying so it can be done (even if everyone on here will tell you it can't).

I am thinking of rescheduling and I still have about 9 days left. I am still on my first time MCQs. It's really taking me longer than I though.

@ Sandra- I noticed you have Reg on July also! I'm guessing you study all day. How do you do it!

I did great in Audit ! Aced it … and Passed FAR 😀 > I would not want to say how … but … at the end of the day my knowledge in FAR is really not at all as shallow as it is in REG !

    😀 > I will try ! :D> my wife is praying for me 😛 . and pampering me too ! that should work ! 😀 >

    two to go !

My test is Monday also and I have been preparing full-time for over 5 weeks so I have an idea what you are up against. I personally would not attempt to take the test, but I also understand you are going to lose a couple hundred dollars anyway. That said, (although I have no experience studying this way) I think you should go to the comprehensive progress tests, put in any answer, then focus on the explanations-right and wrong. I think those explanations can be more valuable than the book. When you need a break from that, keep going over the Pass Keys. Finally, watch the parts of the lectures where Gearty and Olinto are on screen. Best of luck to both of us on Monday.

    A (05/23/12) 92
    R (07/02/12) 77
    F (08/29/12) 69 Retake 2/27/13 80
    B (10/22/12) 79

@Nicole- I don't study all day. I started FAR June 1st ish and have been putting in about 4-5 hours a day with the occasional day off. I think REG will be harder for me since I have zero tax experience, but I dig business law, so we'll see.

Sandra laid out a great plan for you!! I would like to add that Ethics/Legal responsibility is heavily tested, so I wouldn't discard that:)

Let us know how it goes!! Good Luck!

OK the first time I took REG back in '04 when I wasn't committed to studying, I studied for a week and I got a 72. So there is some hope for you.

REG is the one test where I think you MIGHT be able to get away without pounding multiple choice questions. BUT I would highly recommend doing some of the corporate tax ones because of the way they are worded.

CPA628 is soooooo dead on about the Ethics. I think it was seriously 10 pages in my Becker book and I had 10 questions on the exam. They are not difficult questions, but if you don't read the part in the book, you'll miss them, and kick yourself for it!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

@SANDRA – good luck on Thursday! Please let us know how FAR goes. I'm banning you from toasters for 1 week!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

My suggestion is to work through as many MCQ as possible, reading the explanations of why the answers are right or wrong and thinking about why you missed the question (or got it right.) For me, many times, I answer incorrectly because I don't pay close attention to exactly what the question is asking. A tip I got from Gleim is to look for the RIGHT answer and not allow the other choices to distract or confuse. Although it goes against prior training on MCQ, I do not always read all of the choices, because if I find a choice that I am fairly certain is a correct answer, then reading the others will only confuse or create doubt.

Then Monday go in there and do your best! Pass or fail, you gave it a good try. Keeping calm and not panicking during the test will go a long way toward improving results.

    I wish you well!
