my horrible experience with REG

    I took the test yesterday and I must say it was brutal. There was really no gimme question except for a few (which I did not know sadly because I did not emphasize this in my studies). Everything else thoroughly tested my knowledge and I mean THOROUGHLY. No stone was left unturned, I pretty much needed to know every rule, every concept, every small detail (no matter how small) if I hoped to answer these questions. Also, most of my mutliple choice questions could have been sims by themselves.

    it was really bad =/

    Yep, that's how REG is. But you're probably going to be one of those people who says “i definitely failed!” but end up getting an 89 lol

    BEC - 67, 79 - (expires 5/24)
    REG - 74, 72, 77 - Key to Passing: RTFQ
    FAR - 77 - Chance favors the prepared mind.
    AUD - 64, (5/14) - FREEDOM!! (i hope)

    I'm definitely not one of those people who say “I didn't study at all and did so badly :(” but get an A- on a test. When I say I failed, I failed lol

    Hey guys,

    Thought I would put in my two cents. BTW Huthut–I love the Happy Festivus comment. I want to celebrate that when I pass REG. Hopefully that is sooner rather than later.

    I have to agree with goodluck, my exam was on everything. I didn't feel like it was concentrated on one thing, it felt like a bit of everything I had studied was on it. Overall, I felt alot better on my timing. Last time, I pushed myself to go to the next testlet after 30 minutes…this time, it just happened that way. I was hoping that was a good thing…..I have to wait and see. The bad thing was I felt my second testlet get easier, the third seemed harder…but that could be hopeful wishes.

    The sims were the issue. Does anyone ever feel like they nail the sims??? I felt like I was decent on 3 and then just ok on one, but then there were two that I should have gotten right, but I just blanked out. Who does this????? I finished them, but I am so iffy on what I put down. I tried to look up the info in the auth lit…but couldn't find it until 3 minutes left. I am too scared to go back and see if I got it right. And of course no pull down menus!!! All of these were calculations. So, I have no idea if anything was right.

    I am going to self medicate with some beers tonight, take tomorrow off, and then start on Audit on Thursday. Now…if I could just get past Audit…………

    going to try and be positive! keep the faith guys!(that means you goodluck) !!!

    yeah I'm in the same boat. Most of my sims were fill in the blank, almost no pull down menus (except for one which was very easy and I still got wrong lol). I can't take a day off, I have to jump right into audit and I think I got a really bad cold last night too. I lead a torturous life right now

    This should make you feel better (I hope). For my sims, I only knew 1 for certain. The other 5 were all guesses: the research question I got wrong, 1 sim was an educated guess, and the last three (no pull down menus) were all complete guesses. not even close to an educated guess. More like, “Yeah, these two number looks good, sure, let's multiply them, but what about that number, it's there for a reason, yeah ok, add that in as well… oh look, the date is 7/1, you can't fool me! divide by 2!! (lol i felt like a genius at that moment) ” Wow, I'm reliving the look on my face when I saw those sims, haha that confused/disgusted/I'm-about-to-vomit look. The strange part was, my performance report says I did weaker on the MCQ (which I thought I did real well on) and stronger on the sims, which is really sad cuz I'm sure those 3 sims were all wrong. I'm really curious on how they grade these.

    Anyway, I don't want to create false hope, but if your sim experience was better than mine (or similar), trust me, you have a chance of passing.

    And yes, yankee and goodluck2, I hope both of you celebrate festivus this year by the passing of REG.

    @Huthut,

    I don't feel great about either of the two sims, but at the same time, I don't think I can say I got everything right on the other 4, except for the research, I felt like I got that one. Chaps my hide a bit that I totally blanked out on those sims though!! But it definitely gives me a bit of hope if people passed without feeling strong on the sims. Maybe there is a chance. I am not going to dwell on it…..or jinx myself. I can't even bring myself to post on the “predict your score” thread. That seems like the kiss of death to me. Have you ever seen Chopped (Food Network), it is almost like clockwork that when a constestant says I am definitely going to the next round: they get chopped! So, no false hope here, but I feel better after your post. After reading your experience, I am glad you passed–and your descriptions paint the picture perfectly. Good luck on FAR!! Thanks for the post!

    @goodluck

    What a pisser about the cold! Ever try those Airborne tablets? I always crank those when I start to feel sick. Not like Audit is going to help…well, maybe it will, it puts me to sleep! Take care!

    @huthut, I love how you said “Yeah, these two number looks good, sure, let's multiply them, but what about that number, it's there for a reason, yeah ok, add that in as well… oh look, the date is 7/1, you can't fool me! divide by 2!! (lol i felt like a genius at that moment) “, cause ME2, but not for REG, but definitely for AUD, which i failed by 1 point 🙁 got a 74.

    #305407

    @yankee

    haha. Yeah I'm going to take some airborne right now and see what happens. And I'm about to snap because in addition to my cold, the school next to my house is having drill practice. How the **** am I supposed to study under these conditions anyways? I just worked a full shift too with an hour+ commute.

    @atelery

    sorry to hear that, I'm sure I'll be in the same boat pretty soon haha 🙂 Nah we'll both pass soon

    @huthut

    Im never that lucky 🙂 Glad to hear you passed though!

    @goodluck- Hmm. I remember you got mad at me when I started a similar thread. Now you know why I was whining before. 😉

    REG is THAT bad, isn't it?? It's so bad that I'd call it “ridiculous.” Sometimes I wonder how on earth 45% even passed. Some of the questions are pretty crazy, IMHO…. at least the questions I got were. And it's funny too. During the score release, many people on Facebook were posting, “93 on REG!!!!” I mean, how on this earth are these people scoring 90s on this kind of an exam?? Just goes to show what kind of competition we're facing. Ugh!!

    To be honest though, I think my failure in REG was due to a number of unusual circumstances. The Wiley book had missing & outdated information. I didn't buy the Gleim software and practice. I was getting lazy towards the end of my study period because I thought I knew it all. And also, in NYC, we had an earthquake and hurricane all in the same week and my test was in danger of being cancelled. All that combined has killed me and ruined my thinking ability. Right now, I'm using the Gleim book (which seems to be a lot better than Wiley), I'm practicing like crazy with the Gleim software to get myself used to different types of questions, I'm studying harder than ever, and so far, no earthquake or hurricanes are scheduled to hit us, lol. And I'm more focused than ever, which I think is the most important thing one needs in order to pass these exams. So, hopefully, I'll make it on 11/18 when I retake.

    There's always hope. I got comparable on the MCQs and stronger on SIMS? How is that possible? I have no clue. I had 2 research questions, which was freaking lucky, but I thought I blew it since I made educated guesses on the 4 other SIMS. I changed my answers many many times. MCQs were harder than what I was used to too.

    B 2/12 87
    A 11/11 90
    R 8/11 86
    F 5/12 88

    I wasnt mad at you CPAman, we all thought you were pulling our chain because you mentioned you studied 300 hours and we all thought you'd passed

    @misanthrope

    I dunno, we'll see. 90% of my sims were “educated” guesses

    i am taking reg on thursday and i'm all about tapped out on my studying. i dont know what else to review and what else to go over!! its so frustrating because i know i should be reviewing but i just dont know what to anymore. today i went over individual tax for and from agi and corp tax amt and all that stuff. tomorrow i'm going to do partnerships and a skim over again of all b-law.

    i dont know if i should review through tomorrow night or just review in the first part of the day and take it easy the second half…. i'm going crazy right now because i've done 2300 questions, 30 sims, and 5 full practice exams.

    BEC: Done
    REG: Done
    AUD: Done
    FAR: Done

    I'M DONE!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ok, after a good night's sleep, I am feeing worse about my sims. The worst thing about this is we really don't know how they score these things. Serenity now.

    @hopeful_cpa

    I posted to your post on the REG thread. Overall, in my review, I tried to read thru everything the last two days and I regret that now. I should have stuck to major areas and areas that I was weaker in. Just my 2 cents! Good luck.

    @goodluck

    Hope you are feeling better today! What are you using for Audit? I decided to ditch Gary Bulmash (there were alot of people who really pushed him on the forum) and went with Roger. I got his cram for REG in the last 1 1/2 weeks of studying and really liked his disposition. I felt like he really explained the details well. It was just what I needed. I hope it works for Audit.

    @goodluck2everyone- I know there are a bunch of people that tend to say, “Oh that test was so hard. I guessed my way through and didn't know a thing!! I failed miserably!!” And then the results come…. 95!! You guys probably thought that I'm that kind of person. I'm not. I'm a pass or fail kind of guy. With FAR and AUD, I didn't walk out thinking I bombed. I walked out thinking that I could've done well or bad. With REG, I knew I failed because I was totally lost during the exam. There's no way I could've done well on all those questions I guessed. It doesn't work that way for me. With BEC, I feel the same way as FAR and AUD, so I don't think I bombed. The questions weren't foreign like the ones I got on REG. But we shall see. But I will say this…. if I did bomb BEC, it will be in the low 70s (due to careless mistakes) and if that's the case, I will be pretty mad because honestly, I don't think there's any additional studying that I could've done for BEC. I honestly left no stone unturned. With REG, I did leave some stone unturned because I thought focusing on the more important topics was the better way to study. Not the case. With REG, it's important to really study the little, nitpicky topics such as…. which credits are refundable & non-refundable, the difference between a simple & complex trust, the difference & advantages/disadvantages with Sole Prop, Partnerships (Gen & Limited), LLPs, C Corps & S Corps, what you need to do to be considered practicing before the IRS, etc… All those little nitpicky, tiny detail…. KNOW IT!!!
