I found this website very helpful as I prepped so I wanted to “give back” as I think these assessments can be helpful.

The REG section was my first ever. I have next to no experience in the subject material and my background is: out of undergrad for 20 odd yrs (engineering), MBA ten yrs ago and have worked in corporate finance/planning for the past 10 years or so with my current position being the head finance/accounting person for a small biotech. Historically have been a good test taker and can grasp new concepts relatively well.

I prepped for about 8 weeks, approx. 15 hrs per week ramping to 20-25 the last couple. I used Becker home study supplemented with Ninja notes (used sparingly), Gleim text (used to fill in Becker gaps) and Wiley 2012 Test back (Used extensively). Probably did ~1200 MCQs and 40+ SIMS. My method of study was to go over the material relatively quickly the go through one more time trying to ensure I had a fairly good grasp. Once I started hitting the MCQs (about 2-3 weeks out) if I saw a pattern emerging of not really knowing something I stopped got out the Becker/Gleim materials and ensured I really knew the matter. Also I ensured I was only doing new MCQs not rehashing older ones.

I took notes on all the MSQs I got wrong so I could revist and make sure I had those concepts/facts down. I hit all areas pretty hard with the exception of IRS /professional standards. I read these but didn’t spend much time relative to the others. My main goal was to truly understand the material and know he “main/key” facts so no matter what Qs I got I would be able to work through them.

For me bottom line was it’s a BROAD exam a lot of material. You need to be broad and relatively deep in your knowledge so if you’re new to the material, put in the time!

Last thing and I cant stress this enough RELAX, if you’ve properly prepped chances you’ll do ok and if you do fail it’s a test, that’s all. Ive seen a number of posts and people seem to lose perspective on this. Youre not going to war, youre not getting cancer if you fail. Relaxing and having you head on straight will make it easier on you, your friends/family and probably help your scores.

In terms of experience I left the test thinking I did ok but really wasn’t sure as I didn’t (and still don’t) know exactly how this thing’s scored. I felt from a % right “wise” I thought I was in the 70-80% but felt some could have gone either way. I ended up getting a 95 so I did well. I know this can be daunting so if you have any specific Qs feel free to email me at dprofis@hotmail.com if you come across this thread later in time and if I can help Im happy to.

Again this site was a great resource and plan to use it for the next 3 sections

Cannot be said better. The study materiars present the information, it is our responsibility to put the time in. As a friend of mine says, you need three hard things:a hard chair, a hard table, and a hard butt for all the study hours ahead of you.
