Just took REG this morning and feel terrible…

3rd time taking this test. Before the test I felt like I know EVERYTHING. I did literally thousands of MCQs, probably couple hundred of sims, read all chapters twice and watched all the lectures several times. There was not a thing in that book that I didn’t know. After the test I literally wanted to kill myself. 4 out of 6 SIMS were completely out of the left field, 2 about the things I haven’t even heard of. 1 of the 2 that I knew was a research tab!

Most of the MC were about minutia that you normally don’t pay much attention too, or just forget because there is so much of it. There were probably 10 questions that were related to ind. and entity taxation TOTAL. The rest were mostly from ancillary material, or not even in the book at all. Bottom line – I think I failed again. So, looking for answers – what now? Different course, test bank, study method? Sorry for the rant, just frustrated…

    @ihorses:

    What do you mean, ihorses?

“There were probably 10 questions that were related to ind. and entity taxation TOTAL. The rest were mostly from ancillary material, or not even in the book at all”

You scared me since I am going to take my REG tomorrow… I did focus on the Tax part… but it only have 10 question related that in total…. and most of them are from ancillary material….?

I am using Becker and it seems there's not much ancillary material I can cover…

What I mean is, that the material that I was studying so hard was not on the test. Instead there were questions about some stuff that was either barely mentioned, or not in the book at all.

Becker, yes. I did their MCQs to the point that I could answer the question before I finished reading it. I knew them all. Last week I did a 1000 question quiz, and I scored 97 on it, which means I missed only 30 questions out of 1000. Yet I was completely lost on at least 8 to 10 in every testlet on the test today.

Don't worry about that! You are already done =]

Hope for the best! I hope I will be fine tomorrow since it is my last exam like you.

Any last mins advice you can give me?

I did not do many MCQ like you, but I did all the MCQ for Taxation part, and I read all the text for Business law, but did not have time to finish all the MCQ… work is getting busy for me….

Let hope we will do fine!

ihorses — My REG experience from this past Tuesday sounds identical to yours. I went in feeling extremely confident, and came out feeling as though I had been intellectually sodomized. In all seriousness, my exam felt very ‘nit-picky' and I was definitely under-prepared. At this point, I simply hope I passed.

I'm sorry to hear that ihorses. I felt like the REG test was not very representative of what they advertise either… I'm fine with random questions, but there should be a balance 🙁

    B - (4/2012)
    A - (5/2012)
    R - (1/2012) Done!

@ihorses and others I felt the same way when I took it Tuesday. The stuff I thought I would see a lot of I didn't at all. Two of the SIMs had no idea where to even look in review material to see how I should've done them. I'm praying for a 75. Good luck to all of you as well and also glad to hear I wasn't the only one.

    AUD - PASSED - 84 -(11/21/11)
    REG - PASSED - 83 -(1/17/12)
    BEC - PASSED - 86 -(2/28/12)
    FAR - PASSED - 84 -(5/14/12)
    I AM DONE!!!!

    @ihorses, keep the faith !

But I completely understand what you are talking about because my exam was pretty similar to yours. I did not have as much trouble on the sims but I was very irritated that there was so much Ethics/Professional Responsibility stuff and so little Individual/Entity Taxation…

    B - 79 PASSED (1/4 there!)
    A - 77 PASSED (1/2 there!)
    F - 79 PASSED (3/4 there!)
    R - 83 PASSED (DONE!!!!!!)

Similar experience. This was my 3rd attempt at REG. I've put in more hours for this section than the other 3 combined. I went in thinking there wasn't anything I didn't know. Praying for a 75.

    FAR 81
    AUD 82
    REG 70, 67, 82
    BEC 74, 77

I can relate to what you guys are saying.

I also noticed that on the exam that they tend to go one step further than into detail then what you probably remember from studying. For this reason I had to make an educated guess even on questions that were so similar to the practice ones because I just couldn't remember one small thing. There were also whole sections that I studied for completely left out.

I got a little lucky on the sims this time because I found the answer to one of them in the research tab. If I hadn't I would have probably gotten the whole thing wrong. The research question though, the one that I felt was a freebie, wasn't. It took me nearly 15 minutes to locate the info and I'm still not sure I got it right. Overall I feel like I did better this time around but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up until I know for sure

If it makes you guys feel any better, I was sure that I had failed on my third REG attempt, so much so that I had already bought new study material for it and paid for my next NTS. I literally sat in my car and cried for a few minutes after I got done with my exam. Passed with an 85.

I'm right there with you all, I took REG on Wednesday and even though I didn't have much time to prepare for it because I needed to take it before my Far expires tomorrow I still felt like I knew a good deal of it. But when I went in there I felt like I didn't know anything. Like another poster said, what you would think would be heavily tested or at least a few questions, there was none. I'm not even going to talk about the sims from @#!@. Pretty sure I'll be retaking REG along with the FAR credit that I'm losing tomorrow.
