I am using Becker and finished the first 2 lectures that covered individual tax and did not find them overly complex. I just watched the 3rd lecture and it seems more difficult but I am hoping that as I actually get into the material it won’t be that bad. So what lectures/topics were the most difficult for you?

I personally don't feel like there are many things covered on the CPA in general which are conceptually difficult, it is the volume that will destroy you. For REG I feel like the most difficult thing is trying to keep straight the slightly different rules and treatments of similar situations. For instance as one poster mentioned basis rules for individual vs corporate vs partnership, or the rules that apply to contracts under common law vs the UCC, or the different treatments for deductions and expenses by an individual vs corporate vs partnership vs s corp. Again I didn't think any of the topics were just overwhelmingly complex, I just find it hard to keep strait things like do I use FMV or basis or is a gain or loss allowed and to what extent. If I could go back in time to the beginning of my studying I probably would have made charts showing similar circumstances and how they are treated differently depending on the parties involved, both for tax topics and for contract topics.

    AUD - 2/2013 - Passed!
    BEC - 5/2013 - Passed!
    FAR - 8/2013 - Passed!
    REG - 11/2013 - Passed!
