Just started Reg and am curious what are the most difficult parts?

I am using Becker and finished the first 2 lectures that covered individual tax and did not find them overly complex. I just watched the 3rd lecture and it seems more difficult but I am hoping that as I actually get into the material it won’t be that bad. So what lectures/topics were the most difficult for you?

That's kind of irrelevant because what's hard for me may not be hard for you.

The second half of the book is law, which I was less familiar with, so that took me longer to nail down.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

Agreed with the poster above. I personally found individual taxation, estate/trust taxation, and bankruptcy to be the most difficult parts across all 4 exams

I'm starting Becker section 6 today, which covers Commercial Paper, Secured Transactions etc… Honestly, I haven't seen anything thus far that seems too “challenging.” I think the hardest element to this exam will be to retain the all the fine details and exceptions for taxation come test time. Because of that, I'm trying to get through the lectures fairly quickly so I can catch up on making my study guide for the earlier chapters. I think once you get to the final review and spend a lot of time reviewing the taxation, it'll become fairly routine.

-As for the poster above, I disagree about the relevance. I think this is a very relevant question for this forum. What may be hard for me not for you, may work for me may not work for you is present in almost every post. Do you think diets work the same for everyone? These questions are what make this forum interesting for such a wide array of people. Bouncing thoughts and ideas off one another and seeing the challenges and misery others face build a collective support group. It's what brings me back.

    FAR - 84
    BEC - 89
    AUD - 93
    REG - 87

    personally, for me, basis.

basis for partnerships(nonliquidating and liquidating), c corps(nonliquidating and liquidating), and s corps(nonliquidating and liqudating)

if someone would clear that up, or….have a 1 shot formula for all these would be nice 🙂

Do you have any tax experience? If so, much of the tax concepts and whatnot might be a little easier for you.

I, personally, consider REG to have been the easiest exam section for me (doesn't mean I passed the first time!). I hated the topic of commercial paper and REALLY hated non-monetary exchange transactions. Business law was ok as was tax for me. The exam I got in which I passed seemed very fair and totally passable if you studied an honest amount.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.
