I've hit bottom, this section appears hopeless

I have Reg on 5/29 and I am out of time.

I’ve been through and handwrote the notes for all sections. I retyped the notes for business law, ethics and part of taxation but I have ran out of time.

I have too many notes to type for taxation so I decided to switch to doing questions in Wiley. Suddenly it is as if I never studied much of this information. It has just hit me that I am not going to pass this section despite putting forward more effort than AUD and BEC combined.

This has just been one hellaceous study section. On top of my Mom’s passing, just in the last week I found out my half brother’s brain cancer is coming back and then ended up almost in a fist fight with my neighbor who iexplicably yelled “F YOU” at me and the cops had to be called (he has a substantial alcohol problem). This has been just unbelievable…I’ve tried, I really did the same effort as my other sections but I just feel like I haven’t studied at all despite studying very hard and understanding it while going through it.

I need a miracle on this one.

You've got 5 days – and hopefully a 3-day weekend. Use your time to pound MCQ's – do them using your notes to help you get the answers correct – that's how you'll learn. Even if you don't pass this time, the experience will be helpful, and you'll at least be familiar with the concepts when you re-study. You've done great on the other sections, so you can pass this one too. In my experience, the Wiley questions are harder than what is on the exam. So even if you feel you are doing poorly on the Wiley MCQs, I think there is still a chance you could pass.

Life sucks sometimes – you've got to stay focused and look to the future.

    Good luck!

    REG 11/28/11 - 88
    BEC 04/04/12 - 88
    FAR 07/23/12 - 90
    AUD 11/2012 - 92

When you're studying hard, but you have other things mentally weighing you down, sometimes it counteracts. You still have 5 days to pull it all together, that's a long time in study time you can get a lot done. You'll have the weekend too. Keep nailing those MCQs, that's the best way to understand the beast–I mean REG.You can do this!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

Go in there an do your best. Worst case… you take a mulligan on this one. Not the end of the world. Don't beat yourself up over this test, especially since you've put forth the effort and considering the external events going on in your life. Not to mention, you're more than 50% done with this whole proccess.

@CPAPending, I'm so sad to hear that life is throwing you a bunch of curve balls. I know this whole process is tough enough on its own so when life unexpectedly piles on more it must be hard to push through. Is pushing back your exam until the first week of July an option? This may be the way to go if you think it'll guarantee you a pass I recently had to make a choice on whether or not to push back my BEC exam and ultimately I ended up keeping my 5/30 date. I figure I'll take the exam, do my best and if I pass I have one under my belt, If not then I can always do a quick re-study and sit again in July….I'll then have about 8 weeks to re-study for a FAR exam that I didn't pass. I guess what I wanted to say is that there are options for you. Make sure whatever you choose to do is best for YOU. Good luck!

Thanks all….I went into the other exams on fire but between external life pressures and demands at work, I've just crashed. Literally just turned stupid all of a sudden.

EEL, that's my plan. I figure that in the event of a failure I will regroup and go back at it the first week of July. If I were to reschedule, I would reschedule to the same date. So it's just a discussion of a few dollars difference between trying it (and hoping for a little Divine intervention seeing as how I have perserveered through all this) and rescheduling it.

I've never hit complete bottom like this. I think that I have successfully been able to push the external stuff away until after this test but I've become so tired that it all came crashing in like a wave.

Thanks for listening to the whining, that's what I am doing more than anything else. Just whining….but at least it's for good reason.

Whining or not, it's good to get things off your chest. Better to address your problems/worries/fears than to swallow them and let them consume you! πŸ™‚

@CPApending its things like this that will make your pass that much sweeter. Pull yourself together, get through these next 5 days by doing MCQ's on your WEAK areas and take a couple days off after your exam to regroup.

    REG- 81
    BEC- 72,76
    AUD- 67,88
    FAR- 78

CPApending – I'm going to give you a pass at whining. There is a difference between whining and venting and you are venting your frustrations.

I have been thinking about you and wondering about your state of mind. I agree with everyone else – try to get in the mindset that you need to pull it together until the exam is over. Tell yourself that the second it's over, you'll have all the time in the world to cry, kick, scream, vent, whine, complain, and feel sorry for yourself. The next couple of days have the potential to bring out the worst in you – “final review blues” is what it's called.

I completely believe in you and that you can pull this off. I can't wait to hear of your success!

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

I'm so sorry to hear about your family.

Just know that you can do it! I empathize with you, though it was not during the CPA exams but something happened in my life on a Sunday before finals in college. I had to reschedule all of them, but of course they had to be taken ASAP. Some profs were more understanding than others. I swear I walked into each final completely unprepared. I had all my studying in for the most part before that Sunday, but thought for sure I was screwed. Unfortunately there is no sympathy in taking CPA exams, no professor feeling sorry for you, so you have it much rougher than I did, but the knowledge is there and I think with a little prayer you will be fine.

Just make sure you take a break after this one, a “mental health” break. πŸ˜‰

    AUD 85 (2/12) Using Becker
    FAR 81 (5/12)
    BEC 79 (7/13)
    REG 85 (10/1)

I am so very sorry for the loss of your Mother, the news about your half-brother and your lousy neighbor πŸ™ I can not even imagine what emotions you must be dealing with. My advice would be to dig deep and find your focus. If you channel all of your hurt, sadness, anger, rage, ect… into knowing your material, I am sure you will succeed. The mind is capable of amazing things, especially under immense stress and pressure. Look at studying as a break from emotional brain time. A distraction… Again, my deepest condolences and best wishes for kicking some REG butt!!!

Remember you don't need a 99. I felt lost and hopeless and wish I had an extra week to study for every exam. I would focus on mcqs in taxes.

Thanks for the encouragement all…..I'm just exhausted I think.

The blessed news is that if I can get through this exam, I will have a break for a couple weeks before studying for a week for FAR. Then the following week will be beach-a-palooza 2012. Last year I was laid off on the second day of my vacation so that year's vacation was RUINED. However, I managed to have the interview for the job I took lined up within 8 hours. So I had a little hope and was able to play some. I'm ready for a vacation.

If I don't pass, I will have to go back to studying in June heavily and try REG again the first week of July. That will require me to study during vacation so…

For those praying folks, please pray for some peace and quiet in the neighborhood this weekend and some mental energy and peace. I'll return the favor. Thanks!

I can't imagine what you must be going through. You are a strong person and you will come through this. Just give this exam everything you have and you WILL pass.

    Praying for you, Good Luck.
