I've come to a decision - Page 2

Well, the stress of the past few months have caught up with me. I’ve just crashed somehow, this week has been 10x worse than the week we buried Mom. I’ve crashed. I took some bad advice to stay busy to ward off the stress.

I filed to have my FAR NTS, currently scheduled for 8/31 pushed into Q4. I wasn’t thinking when I asked them to push it back from 8/2 to 8/31…it was only a couple days after my Mom’s passing that I asked for the extension. I assume they will decline. Either way, if I push REG on July 13 as planned and FAR on 8/31, I will likely fail both and be that much worse off.

So here’s the decision I’ve come to:

    1) I’m pushing REG retest from July 13th to sometime in August. I’ll look at my schedule tomorrow at work and see what time of the month will be best.

    2) I’m pushing FAR into Q4 (assuming I pass REG in August).

    3) I’m taking a couple days off right now to get my head screwed back on straight.

    4) I’m not studying on my vacation at the end of June.

I’ve studied to the point I’m overwhelmed not only with this test but also in general life. Had all of these things not happened, I would probably be in a different place right now. But they did happen and I have to deal with them.

So my thought process is that I can catch my breath a little right now, nail REG in August and FAR in Q4. I could keep going but my tension level will just increase and it’s begun to affect work and family. Pushing through exhaustion will not help me and I’ll just be that much more miserable having failed REG again and FAR. I’ll continue to work on REG in the meantime.

@CPApending…you have been thru alot lately, and no one can actually feel how you feel lately ('cause I am not you). Everyone is different. Some like to keep it themselves, some like to share or let the whole world know…we all have our own ways dealing with pain, success, failure, and loss. Just ignore those flakes who try to be Dr. Phil. Besides, I don't even think that was what Jenuno01 really meant anyway…

At first, I was excited that Mimi had posted, but as soon as I read his post…seriously??? That was so uncalled for and so rude. Cpapending has been through a lot, and the last thing he needs is more drama.

Cpapending, hang in there. You can post as much as you like and majority of us aren't annoyed AT ALL.

I will say however I don't believe you got “bad advice”. It was exactly the advice you said you were looking for at the time so it is what you got. If you had said you needed time to clear your head and regroup, that's the advice you would have gotten instead. Nobody can direct you on how to cope with your life, only follow your cues and be supportive to the best of their ability.

I am not sure if it can be even qualified as an “advice.”

After mla posted, I re-read the thread and I think she was talking about the advice that CPApending got when he chose to study to ward off the stress.

Because I don't think that anyone will agree that one minimorty posted was “advice.”

Mrs 300 you are correct, I was referring to pending's statement that he took bad advice to stay busy. But that advice was only given in response to a request for a kick in the butt.

Thanks. Mrs 300… People said I have a smile on my face even I wasn't smiling. You are very close to finish too! You will kill FAR in July! Tip: For theory questions and government accounting, Becker itself is good enough. For calculations, Wiley is a very good suppliment. If you make a mistake in Wiley, refer back to your Becker book for explaination. I found it sticks better.

Yeah, I don't know if I told you MLA but CONGRATULATIONS! That's AWESOME.

I understood by the way what you were talking about with the advice thing. My mentor boss gave it to me…said that when his Dad passed, he worked through it. I listen to good advice and it seemed pretty good at the time. But it wasn't. šŸ˜€

Thanks to all. I was actually somewhat excited and relived to post this last night because it seemed like a way from here to there to allow me to pass this exam while still giving me the break I need. Thanks all for your support.

I appreciate those tips, CPAconvertible! I really do feel like I'm in good hands with Becker. I definitely felt well-prepared both times I took FAR; but for FAR, I really struggled with the test-taking anxiety of it all. But I know that using Wiley can only help. I like the idea of doing the Wiley MC and then going back to the Becker book. Becker lays it out really well. I just need to get over the hump!
