Hi errybody,

I got a quick question. I am on my last test (humblebrag) REG, and would like to finish in the next window. My only issue is that I have a number of family events, and the only time I can really take it is October 17, about 5 weeks, I’m through my first pass on two chapters, but is 5 weeks too aggressive for REG?

I work full time and it took me 7 weeks to get through REG. I have never worked a day in tax and I haven't been in a classroom in almost 20 years, so it was all basically new to me. This all may be a little fresher for you than it was for me.

Not a fan of describing study time in weeks personally.

If you're studying 25 hours per week, 5 weeks just may be doable. I did it in 5 weeks and have no tax experience. Got a PERFECT score, a 75 (so it just as easily could have been a fail but dodged that bullet)

But I've seen people here on this forum say they're studying 5 weeks and when you ask a few questions they admit they're studying 6 hours a week LOL. In that case, nope no way.

haha yeah @mla11692, I'm studying about 25-30 hours a week and working full time. I did FAR in a similar timeline, but my friends at pdubbs told me im cuttin it close

5 Weeks is perfect. Make sure you know by heart tax before moving on to business law. REG is almost 60% tax 20 cpa ethics and 20 business law, and business law represent 50% of the study course. If you have time before the test, you can go over business law. But if you dont, you still have very high chance of passing.

Totally agree with everyone, REG is doable in 5 weeks. It took me 5 weeks (150 hours total) and I find out if I passed Tuesday. The only reason I believe I failed is that the sims were every bit as hard as people say they are, so be sure to focus on mcq AND sims during the 5 weeks.

These responses make me feel a little better about trying to take it with 7.5 weeks of studying around 20-25 hours a week. My only concern is not having any tax experience besides an individual tax class I took a couple years ago.

REG takes way less time to study for than FAR.

Try to go through the business law stuff quickly. The review courses have way too many MCQs for business law. It's only 20% of the test but in Ninja and Wiley, the b-law questions are 40% of the questions. And I swear to god, studying “Federal Laws and Regulations” and “Federal Securities Regulations” was a waste of time. Oh yeah, and all those questions with pictures asking you if it's a draft or a check or whatever.

Actually, if you have to focus in a topic in business law, it has to be federal securities regulations because it covers big chunk of CPA business ethics part too. Even Ninja had 700? MCQs of business law when total REG mcqs were 1800. I considered that as an overkill for business law and only did 200 of those.

If you're studying 25 hours per week, you should be able to complete 2 Becker chapters a week.

@valar, im going to be honest, I dont do 1 chapter per week, or 2 chapters per week… my method is more like the ninja method. I watch all the chapters (pretty much one a day) for a high level overview. Then I do a ton of MCQS and get extremely frustrated. So i go back and carefully comb the material. I practice again, find weak spots, comb the material, repeat. Then in the last week I just blitz through practice problems.
