Is it enough to pass REG if I only read Becke Final Review Summary for R5-R8?

I only have few days left before the REG exam, and I finished R1-R4 but haven’t touched R5-R8 yet. For R5-R8 exam review, each has average 3 1/2 hours lecture and 60 pages. I plan to use the remaining time to focus on R1-R4 problems.

To those who use Becker textbook and passed the REG test: do you think it’s possible to pass R5-R8 questions if I only read Final Review (about 20-30 minutes for each chapter) instead of Exam Review (3 1/2 hours & tons pages)?

Do I need to finish all practice questions for R5-R8?

According to your signature, you've already taken REG once and scored a 17 on it. I am just baffled how this is your 2nd time through the exam and you still haven't touched half of the topics in this segment. I think you need to reevaluate how you are studying and take a hard look at the time you actually devote to this exam.

I do not believe that just going through final review will be enough. You need to be hammering multiple choices at this point and should have learned the topics you are still on a few weeks ago. If your exam is in 9 days you could try doing one section of Becker a day and then start reviewing from Saturday on.

My guess is that the 17 isn't a true representation of the poster's knowledge.

They had BEC the previous day and it was Thanksgiving.

With that said – I would consider pushing your exam back into early Feb, which still gives you time for another exam late-Feb.

I would also invest in a full review course and do it right. If you're only going to use a book – I would get a book that you can study standalone that doesn't assume you have the videos.

REG 17 was a mistake… I took REG because the NTS was going to expired and I couldn't delay the REG exam any more. Then I thought I should take exam to see what's the topics in the real test even though I haven't seen any page for REG.

I just graduated from Canadian university in Dec 2013 (accounting major). I find U.S. REG is so different with Canadian tax law. Sometimes I got confused. I review my study plan and realize that it's not efficient at all. Anyway, I thank you for your advice, and I decide to review all lectures for R5-R8 but give up the homework questions. I will spend my remaining time on R1-R4 questions.

    To CR7

I finished all chapters for BEC. It only took me 2 weeks to study on BEC and it was not hard. I have learned most of BEC topics in my college classes.

    Thank you all.

It doesn't matter where you graduated. Just always remember that the laws in Canada is not the same with US. Basically, just throw out everything you've learned in Canada and apply what you will learn in US instead.

I graduated from a third world country university, and that country has a very different tax laws as compared with US. The tax laws from where I came from rarely change even with the changes in the business environment. I'm always saying that the tax laws in US is better than from where I came from.

Anyways, again (Tim Gearty), it would be better if you read REG without referencing what you've learned in college. Expect that also in practice because tax laws change every year.

    FAR - 92 02/2013
    AUD - 90 05/2013
    REG - 85 10/2013
    BEC - 80 12/2013

    I'M DONE. THANK YOU LORD!

I agree – forget everything you learnt in Canada – I had a headache doing that as I learnt everything British, then I had to unlearn that to Learn Canadian, now I have unlearn the Canadian stuff to learn the US law/Tax.
