Hey guys, I am just wondering if you guys have had trouble with the IRC simulation in REG? I am having A LOT of problem. The simulation question: What code section explains why a taxpayer cannot deduct his contributions to his national political party?

So I first searched using certain words like political, contributions, deduction, no luck. So I checked Solution and it says:

Source of answer for this questions: IRC Section 162, Subsection (e)

and on the second line, it says to use the keyword: Political expenditures.

So I tried using the keyword it suggested to search within the IRC and I find out that even using the keywords that the solution, it gets no where close to Section 162, subsection (e), here’s whats even MORE funny, I used EXACT phrases within Section 162 in the search box and it STILL doesn’t bring me to Section 162. LOL I am so frustrated that I am laughing, does anybody have tips on how to utilized the IRC? Thank you!

The IRC seems to be different from the codification and is extremely difficult to search through. The approach I had for those was to look through the sections and see what was most relevant and begin there. Unfortunately it is time consuming, but can also be easy points if you can find it. I gave myself and hour and a half for the SIMS in REG and only finished with about 1 minute left.

    Good luck!

The keyword search never seemed to work for me. I was able to find the answers a lot easier by becoming familiar with the tabs and where everything is located. Agree with @brianna8915 that It takes some extra time but once you figure out how to navigate through it, the IRC can become very helpful, especially with the non-research simulations. My recommendation would be to just take some time to click the tabs and figure out where things are.

One other tip if you would rather utilize the keyword search. After you search there is a tab in the top right that says “View: “and you can select short, medium, or long. Click long and it will show a paragraph or two which will help with your search.

    Hope this helps!

I used the AL perfectly for AUD, but can't seem to find anything in REG. REG should be a 4 hour exam IMO…

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...

Sorry to hear about your scores @Last Chance. I agree with the IRC being pretty useless. What helped me was knowing how the IRC is set up…the hierarchy, if you will. I used Wiley to know the IRC and it helped tremendously.

I do not my result yet but there are two things I will do different if I have to study again REG:

    1) Be familiar with IRC to get the expection of the general rule.

    2) Phase out is important to get the Sim right and there are not in the AL in REG so make a list and remember as much as I can.

    Vamos!! We can do this!!

FAR - 77 x2 Wiley book & no test bank
    AUD - 83 x3 NINJA Test bank 3 time
    REG - 80 x1 NINJA Test bank
BEC - 78 X2 NINJA Test bank ..done!!promesa cumplida mama -que llege al cielo 🙂

@ last change,… We are learning how to study for each section. One method is good for one section is not really the best way to study for the next section. Each exam is a different animal.

Study is important but more important is know how to study right.

    YOU CAN DO THIS…. !!!!

FAR - 77 x2 Wiley book & no test bank
    AUD - 83 x3 NINJA Test bank 3 time
    REG - 80 x1 NINJA Test bank
BEC - 78 X2 NINJA Test bank ..done!!promesa cumplida mama -que llege al cielo 🙂

I will try to learn the IRC. Again, I used it perfectly for AUD. I couldn't believe the answers I found!

Overall, this is my last chance. FAR expires after the July window and then I am done with the CPA exam. I don't need the CPA in my career, so it was sort of a bonus study (to perhaps change careers). If I don't pass REG on this try, then I will just lean on my great job and decent salary to feel good about myself – lol. I am literally a “last chance CPA”, so the pressure is actually off for the next exam…

Of course, I would encourage others (who are in the accounting field) to NOT follow my advice…

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...

@Last chance good luck. I understand your situation…the 83 was my second time. The first time I took in January I got a 68. I went through all the Ninja and Wiley questions and did all the simulations. Like I said, Wiley really helps with the simulations and knowing the IRC. Just fooling around with the IRC helped me tremendously. Also, really knowing business law helped…there's only so many ways to ask tax questions, but business law is endless.

Thanks Gabe – I will take your advice. I feel like I can teach basic level tax/blaw at this point. It's definitely not a test of how much accounting you know….

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76
