Incredible hard REG exam i just encountered yesterday

I took REG yesterday. I was so exhausted before and after the exam.

i can’t believe that my MCQs are also extremely hard beside the monster simulations because of the lengthy wording questions themselves and most of them involved calculation. almost 75% of my questions have about 4 lines (for calculations even more) to read. my reading is slower than those native English speakers which is normal because i am ESL candidate. i spent 2 hour on the first 3 testlets, actually i needed much more time than this, i knew i had to rush to the simulation. as a result, many of them i didn’t have time to calculate, and half of my simulations i couldn’t finish even though i put something on every part, but i didn’t have time to think about, when i rushed myself did 3 simulation tabs (i knew i did badly), i only had 11 minutes left, i felt so nervous and just tried to go through everything and put something on them,, i even missed the research question which i was confident before…so sad and i don’t know how i can improve when i retake it….

i don’t know how many of you found your exams were mostly involved with calculations. if i had more time, i would feel ok about this, but most of the calculations needed 2 -5 minutes, under the exam pressure, making mistakes in calculation is not uncommon. i hate to say that i am pretty sure i have to retake this again. i don’t need to mention about the simulation because everyone already knew how it was.. monster,

I feel your pain. REG is incredibly hard and then on top for non-native speakers like us it is much harder. This is what I would do for any exam – I prepare much much longer for each section. If I am thorough and very familiar with the material, MCQs are easier to read. I look for the areas they are testing and the usual pitfalls they use. In other words, I put myself in the shoes of the examiner and see what he is trying to do. This is all during prep. I read each material atleast three times (once before doing MCQs, once after 90 MCQs and sims and finally once during review). I also have to take time-based MCQ's and keep within the limit. My online Gleim program helps me with that. And finally two days before the exam I try to do very little. I too get very exhausted before and after exams. I get this terrible backpain while sitting in the chair for 2-2.5 hrs doing MCQs. By the time I get to sims, I am physically and mentally exhausted. Can you believe it, duirng REG for sims I did not check the authoritative literature for any of the sims except one.

Well hopefully you passed. Good luck with your exams!

    @hav2pass Thanks for your reply.

before retake REG exam ( which is very likely), i am going to buy Gleim software, I have also heard others talked about this brand, but this time i used becker 2010 material supplemented with Wiley 2011 Test Bank since i knew there were a lot of changes this year. i will try harder next time….thank you!

You are welcome.I think Becker + Wiley is a good enough combination. Can you take time-based MCQs and Sims in either? I love my online Gleim (2 MCQ testlets with 20 Qs each and 2 sims for each unit) and the book (25-40 Qs each unit). The test prep has tons of MCQs. But I do only 60-90 in each unit. The thing about Gleim is that the material is written in technical language. So understanding it the first 2 times is hard. That's why I find the AICPA version Qs easier to read:) Reading lots and doing lots of MCQs was my trick for REG. It helps with the left field MCQs and the sims.

Yes, i was able to do time-based final exam from becker 2010 software and i did both of them each once, but i spent little more time than required. for wiley 2011 test bank, i did the whole software exam one time but i did it in study version (no time limit) which enabled me to review the answers and concepts. as many already mentioned, there were some errors in wiley software i found. i think i was unlucky this time to have too many lengthy and calculating questions. my real exam yesterday was harder than both becker and wiley practice exams. i think i need to do at least twice wiley software exam questions. big sigh…..

I am finding these bankruptcy questions tough and detailed, this is probably the only BLaw SIMs I could imagine would be on the actual exam. Just when I thought the law section was basic I get slammed with this bankruptcy material. Maybe I'll get lucky and avoid the topic. REG is a beast alright.

With REG, I approached studying like I would prepare for a battle (without having any real experience on the subject, lol):

Write down everything you least want your enemy to do, and prepare for that.

I focused on tax because I struggled with the subject back in school, and I never took the advanced tax course.

B-law was never difficult for me, and sure enough, on exam day it seemed like a never-ending parade of basis questions!

    whyme23,

the blaw sections are rough!! I have a lot of long days ahead of me just trying to get it straight! I have to hand it to you taking 3 exams–in the summer no less!!. I took three last window, but with my kids in school, studying was easier to stick to. I passed 2 and failed one. Seeing that Audit had the highest passing rates, I was mad at myself that I didn't pass it myself. I have a rematch at the end of August.

BTW great score on BEC!! I think you will do great on ur exams.

    Best of luck with REG.

    Thanks yankee,

It sucks giving up my entire summer, I feel like studying is almost worse than a full time job. For me the Blaw is more familiar since I took the class about a year ago and it sticks after just one lecture and quick skim (except for bankruptcy and secured transactions). I am expecting REG to be my biggest challenge the material is overwhelming. I am ALMOST through R7 and going to try a full practice exam tomorrow. Then the review begins, I feel like I already forgot all the tax so I am hoping a 4 day refresh will be enough.

I am sure you will finish strong with AUD and REG, I admire anybody who has to balance so many things and still study for these tests.

Any last-minute tips? I'm taking REG tomorrow and doing some last-minute cramming…

So which is harder – FAR (took already) or REG?
