I'm back….REG restudy question

I’m back after a brief pause to rest and have a nice beach vacation.

I’m trying to figure out the best course to restudy for Regulation. My score report said I was weaker in Ethics (still scratching my head on that one) and business law. I was comparable on all taxation except for Individual where I exceeded. I received weaker in SIMS because “you suck” wasn’t an option available to the NASBA people on the score report….my mind rebooted during the SIMS.

I just finished going through CPAExcel taking hand written notes on everything tax (much better organized IMHO than Wiley for REG tax). During my last pass, I already typed the notes for ethics and business law but I need to retype them to refresh. So that leaves me with the need to retype all notes.

I take REG again on 8/30 so I have basically 5 weeks to retype all my notes, make note cards, and do Wiley and CPAExcel MCQ’s/SIMS. The question is how.

Would you retype the notes first and then do the MCQ’s/SIMS until I vomit?

    Or

Make one pass through the Wiley and CPAExcel MCQ’s and SIMS, then type the notes, then finish strong with more Wiley/CPAExcel MCQ’s and SIMS?

    Thanks!

@CPApending.so you think CPAExcel does a good job? How did you feel last time with the MCQs?

btw what I do (CPAExcel only) is read a topic, reread it, and then work the MCQs for that topic. Rinse and repeat until I have literally memorized every single question/answer. For me personally taking notes is a waste of valuable time.

I agree with CPATerminator. Typing notes and making cards is a waste of time. Read the book slowly and try to understand each topic, then do the MCQ. Do that twice and you will pass. Most importantly go slow when reading and you must understand every topic. GL

That's funny because I really get a lot out of typing the notes and making the note cards for me is like cement. I guess that everyone is different.

I think I will go with option 2 of doing the questions (wiley and CPAexcel) and then retype the notes/do notecards and then finish up again with mcqs and sims. That way I do not get burnt out and get a mental break.

@Terminator….the last time I flubbed it up. For note taking/learning I used CPAExcel for ethics and business law and Wiley for tax. I did not do any mcq's or SIMS from CPAexcel, I only did Wiley 3x each. But having gone through REG taxation, I can tell you that CPAExcel is 1,000 times better than Wiley as far as organization goes.

I think the combo of mcq's and SIMS from CPAExcel and Wiley will get me past this beast of an exam this time.

Amen brother….I'm in a much better place than last time, that much I can tell you. I have my eye on the prize again!

I'm glad that I went through CPAExcel for tax, it really took the time to explain the material much better than Wiley. Wiley was like reading the phone book as far as information goes.
