I went through the first chapter for REG (roger) yesterday and finished it all and score 75,85,90,95 in quizes for the Chapter I plan to to start Chapter 2 today. Is one month enough to study for REG? I really don’t want to do BEC right now something just doesn’t click, so I will push that to the side and do REG while my BEC to retake it processed.

I studied for 7 weeks and passed with an 84. Don't be fooled by the first 2 chapters. You'll laugh and laugh at how easy it is. Trust me, I did the same and then I lost sleep after I didn't give myself enough time for the other chapters. Unless you do difficult individual, partnership, and corporation returns all the time, and know all the regs by heart, study hard! Also, don't blow off Blaw!

I've been really busy at work due to Q4 estimates and did couple of hours today and will do just one hour today. a work in a medium firm that focuses on the wealthy; hence, I do get a lot of exposure to really complex individuals, partnerships, foundations, and trust. So even when I don't do the full return some of the lingo and rules are familiar. I did push back my test one week. I really hope I pass this one. I felt pretty bombed after failing BEC. I would like to at least pass this to give me a second wing and retake BEC…. Keeping fingers crossed.

Hi Want2bCPAsobad.. i feel for you coz i also did not pass BEC and now i want to study for REG just because i already registered for it…and now i feel that i dont have enough time for it. My NTS is expiring in Feb so scheduled my exam a day before it expires. I am also thinking about buying ROGER for REG.. Initially i was thinking just to stick with NINJA only but i feel that i need more comprehnsive review course. I was contemplating between CPA Excel snd ROGER.. so if anyone has any suggestions please advise. I want to buy the course tonight so i can study hard in this long weekend.

...FAILING IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME!!!

JJ Leeza, I thing you should do all trials and decide. Roger is great for tax and it keeps you engaged. I believe his free trial is 3 days. I feel BEC I needed to supplement and really regret I didn't. Per other's recommendations I think its good to have a solid software and additional questions to go through. Good luck!

I work in tax consulting and have never actually prepared a tax return (other than my own). I started studying after 9/15 and took my test the first week of November, so about 7 weeks of studying total.

My advice would be to focus on the concepts you DON'T know or don't feel comfortable with. For me, that was partnerships, S-corps, and individual taxation since I mainly consult for large corporations. If you prepare taxes for a living, I would just do a high-level overview of the tax sections by doing some multiple choice questions and brush up on any concepts you're struggling with. Business law was a beast but if you have a strong tax background, you will be fine on the actual exam since taxes are ~60%!

    Good luck!
