I used this title (I know not original), but I think it conveys my current desperation to get this exam past me. I’ve been through too much this past year to keep this exam from going into 2017. I need this to be done by 12/10.

I have taken REG once and yes, I did fail, unsurprisingly to many of you. I had less than 3 weeks of study, skipped some weekends, and had unavoidable family drama during that time as well.

Excuses aside, please, I implore all of you have passed REG and are currently studying for it. What are some ways that helped you drive some of the details home? Are we supposed to remember EVERY single aspect of gross income? Like those Series XX interest? At the moment, I’m done with taxation and moving on to Ethics and Business Law, which I believe, is mostly memorization. What are some ways that you used to help memory retention with Business law?

I am using Roger’s and NINJA. My NINJA is low because I haven’t even touched half of the sections, since I haven’t read/reviewed them yet. But I am pulling a 70-75 on the taxation parts. Though I have to say, I really dislike individual. I keep missing questions on random little details. >.<

When I took REG last year, it was highly computational. I used Becker by itself. I also had quite a few Bus law questions. I would suggest doing Ninja up until your test date. Make sure you have a very good grasp on above the line and below the line deductions

I'd like to know other peoples secrets as well. I'm also using Roger/Ninja 10 pt combo. I've already been through all the lectures and read Roger's book. Been doing mostly mcq's and writing notes since then. I'm on the last tax chapter (property tax) and I just can't wrap my head around it. Sec 1231, 1245, 1250, gain and loss treatments, like kind exchanges etc. I have no idea how to get all of this straight.

This exam seems to be all about the details. You can have a pretty good understanding on a topic, but if you forget to add/subtract one thing, you're screwed. I hope the sims aren't cumulative in that aspect where the whole thing can be marked wrong if you miss one step.

    FAR: 75 Roger & Ninja (notes/flashcards/audio/MCQ)
    AUD: 73, 81
    BEC: 71, retake 8/29

Yes, REG defeated me too, for now.

Focus on property transaction tax and entities tax. For entities, start picturing yourself as a partner and what would happen during distributions and capital gains/losses, whether you should be happy with the outcome and whether there is enough consideration for you as a partner while paying tax, then add LLCs to the equation by balancing the pros and cons of opening a CPA firm as LLP or LLC. Corps are straight forward, and PHC only has like 3 or 4 questions that are testable really. As for property, also picture yourself having assets that you want to give or trade. As for individual tax, I struggled through that, and I just suck up all information like a sponge by using memorization skills. But trust me when I say that if you nail down entities and property transactions, you will most likely nail the sims as well, and you will also most likely score over 75.
