I just want to say thank you to Jeff and the other contributors to this site. This site has been a fantastic resource for me and others and I owe you some credit for my last passing score! I’m all done!

Jeff’s recommendation to re-write your review material was invaluable to me…after I finally broke down and typed up all of my “fact nuggets” I jumped from a 63 to an 85! REG is 80% memorization, so if you are more of a theory/visual person this tip works!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

This is exactly what I did for my material and passed. My jump wasn't as dramatic as yours, but I went from a 60 to a 75. Congratulations.

    Starting fresh in 2010 w/Becker!
    BEC: 74,80 (expired), 78 - FAR: 64, 60, 74, 68, 76 - REG: 70,60,75 - AUD: 74,78
Can't change the past but I CAN make the future.
    DONE - 6/8/13. After 6 LONG YEARS.

how detailed are your guys' notes?

when i tried writing notes for FAR, i just find myself wanting to write down EVERYTHING. after an hour passed, i only had a a page of notes in MS word — because it takes time to read, process, and then summarize the information.

i stopped because obviously this was not a good use of my time

@CannotPassAgain, for REG I had about 3-4 pages per chapter front and back. Once you've failed an exam, you realize what is important and what is not. I felt that for REG & FAR note taking was important. But clearly this did not work for me, for AUD 🙁 For FAR, my notes were only those big topics that Becker says are heavily tested. Hey you're in luck because sitting next to me are my FAR notes that I'm about to burn in a couple of hours haha, lets see, I have big topics such as: Acquisition Method, Equity Method, Full goodwill/partial goodwill, T-accounts for AR & Uncollectible AR, Bank Reconciliations, listed some of the depreciation methods–sum of years digits-double declining-units of production, fixed asset impairment, leases, annuities, bonds, convertible bonds, stock warrants, pensions, accounting for income taxes, financial instruments, stockholders equity, EPS, statement of cash flows. I had about 6 pages front and back for just governmental & non-profit accounting. FAR I had about 20 ish pages front and back. You still have plenty of time, good luck in January!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

    @CannotPassAgain:

Generally, i didn't write any notes on my first time study, i watched video first, then read the book, did the home work questions, after the first round of study, i would have some ideas that which areas i was weak with and witch areas looked more important than others.

at my review stage, i wrote some notes and they were usually the areas i thought were important (as per instructors' pointing and from the questions i did) and the areas i didn't remember very well. i didn't have much time to write everything down, if i did, it would take me forever to study for my CPA. i made the least notes for my BEC study and i think should be less than 5 pages. but other sections were much longer.

@Peanut: I also made the longest notes for governmental and not for profit organizations, but i knew they were still my weakest areas(i retained less than 50% of the materials) and unfortunately, i was heavily tested on all of my weakness. so glad i still passed FAR.

    I am finally done!

Good luck to all of you!

IMO, you only need to type the items that you need to memorize…like stuff you would normally put on flashcards. Inbox me if you need more help. I'm happy to share my techniques with you.

    Good Luck!

I'm sold. Think I will consider this for next REG exam.

    AUD - Passed:)
    FAR - Passed:)
    REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBD

I really need some desperate help over here. I failed regulation again with a 74. I have passed 3 parts already. regulation i got a 74, then i retook again i got a 70 now today again i got a 74. i am gutted.. The sad part is i was stronger on all the areas except one(my report card says), so there is no room for improvement, except for that part. All 3 times i failed regulation, my simulation says Weaker, also this time my MCQ's says stronger. How then in the world i can get a 74? …. I bought wiley, i did 100's of simulations, but on the exam the simualtions were nothing as compared to what i practiced. I dont know what else to do? can someone shed some light….. thanks

@mena je twa – I am sorry about your three fails on REG… i failed twice, I know it hurts! I would try a different study program. It sounds like you need to mix it up. I used CPAexcel and Jeff's NINJA notes, which is a relatively inexpensive option. You can try their free trial on their website. I also used a ton of note cards and quized myself constantly.

Also when it comes to sims, I changed my sim score from a “weaker” on my first two attempts to a “stronger” on my last (passing) attempt. I did this by giving myself plenty of time for the sims and using the research tabs for EVERY single sim. I looked up every answer just to be sure. I even had a couple sims that I had NO clue on and I was able to find the answers on the research tab.

    FAR: 71, 77
    BEC: 70, 82
    AUD: 62, 78
    REG: 71, 68, 85

    Thanks Kandis for your response….

So then, how much time i should allocate to sims, since i have to make use of the research tab? I always feels that i am running out of time on regulation, cause this time around when the testlets got harder, i had to spend more time on the questions, to make sure i get them right, and thats why overall i scored stronger on MCQ's…. i dont know how will i balance, 72 MCQ's, 6 SIMS and research to check my answers – all within 3 hours.

Rewriting all my notes was the reason I passed REG and AUD (the sections that require the most memorization). It is a crucial strategy
