How to prepare for Sims

I sat for the REG portion of “THE CPA Exam” and I didn’t find the multiple choice questions too difficult. However, when it came to the Sims, I was blindsided! I felt Nothing prepared me for what I encountered. The only Sim problem I was familiar with was the fill in the appropriate tax code. As for the other 5 …. well I’m speechless.

I felt pretty good about the exam until it came to the simulations. Now since I feel that I will be sitting for this exam again, i need your advice.

How did everyone do and what did you guys use to prepare for this portion of the exam?

Please indicate the section you are referring to.

Also I am trying to find out from those that sat in 2011, from my understanding, AICPA have made the Sims much harder from previous years.

I sat for REG on 2/25 and felt the same way about the SIMS. I also felt the MCQs weren't too difficult but tricky by asking for tiny details. I felt completely clueless on only one of my SIMS tabs. First MCQ testlet was medium/hard difficulty, second one was easy, and the third one was harder. Overall, I have no idea how and what to feel about the exam.

I used Becker to prepare for this section. This is my last exam; I want it all to be over soon.

    FAR (5/27/10) - 87
    REG (8/27/10) - 66, (2/25/11) - 74, (4/21/11) - 85
    BEC (10/28/10)- 83
    AUD (11/27/10)- 83, CA Candidate NTS#452, Ethics: 90

    Best of luck HKboi228!

Even the practice Sims on AICPA site were nothing like what I encountered.

Also, since you have taken this before how does the MC and Sim relate to the previous REG test? do you feel the AICPA is making the exam harder?

    Thanks

I think the MCQs were more or less similar to the previous REG exam. I just think that this year's version included a lot of questions asking you the tiniest of details of a certain topic. That makes the questions harder for me, I don't know how others feel.

Perhaps the AICPA wants to make the exam harder since I notice that the average scores for this section are typically higher than those of FAR or BEC. I could be wrong.

    FAR (5/27/10) - 87
    REG (8/27/10) - 66, (2/25/11) - 74, (4/21/11) - 85
    BEC (10/28/10)- 83
    AUD (11/27/10)- 83, CA Candidate NTS#452, Ethics: 90

@KRj: My experience with Regulation was almost identical to yours. The multiple choice were fine but the sims were absolutely out of nowhere. I don't know how to give advice to how to prepare for the sims cause we don't yet have the results and I'm not sure if my method worked anyway! I'm just hoping for a huge curve and to be done with this exam once and for all!

Same feeling here I took REG april 1st n I guessed a lot in sims… If I didn't pass then it must be the sims.

Now Im sitting for AUD n found that I totally have no sense in auditing! Why CPA exams so suck:'( I hope I can at least pass one in this window..

    BEC 81
    AUD 69/73/83
    REG 69/73/?
    FAR ?
