How many weeks for REG?

I can devote 20-25 hours per week to REG this summer. How many weeks would I need? No tax exp and it scares me! I am studying AUD now and it seems very easy…right now. I spent a few months on FAR and thought I spent an adequate 300+ hours on it – lol! Is REG really as bad as FAR?

    I fixed your double post….

I haven't passed REG yet, so take this with a grain of salt, but I currently do not find REG as bad as FAR. I found FAR to be too much material, not that it was easier or harder just SO MUCH! REG is less material IMO so for me i think 5-8 week depending on your study habits and how you learn should be good.

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

I'm taking REG on Monday. I didn't think it was nearly as bad as studying for FAR either. I've spent 5 months on it but work full time and have two kids. I was getting about 18 hours in a week. I had to work Sat due to tax season so this dragged it out longer. I do think working for a CPA firm and having gone through two tax seasons was somewhat helpful but not a ton. It's a lot different of a perspective. Doing taxes through a software program and handling mcqs and SIMS is not the same. I wouldn't worry too much about lack of tax experience. Good luck!

@CPA_Driven – It sounds like you had the same journey as I did for FAR. I took 6 freakin' months! And I may have failed!

@LSYNC – I seem to have more time than I thought. I work from home, and I just want to end this journey (started in Sep 2012). If I find out I passed FAR, I will definitely speed up my schedule. On a “happy path”, I want to finish up by July/August at the latest. How many hours will you end up putting in for this section?

@ Gettting a CPA – don't feel bad I seriously studied 7 months for FAR. I read 8-10 weeks is all you need to pass these exams and I have to laugh. Anyone working full time with kids and gets it done in 8-10 definitely has a few more brains cells than I do. We may be slow but we'll get there! I hope you kicked butt!!

In my experience REG has been harder than FAR, but then again I have no tax experience. Here the weeks I spent on REG for each take/retake:

    1st: 9 weeks

    2nd: 3 weeks

    3rd: 5 weeks

    4th: 4 weeks

I received the same score on each attempt so far and I'm still waiting on the 4th score. My point is it may not be the amount of time you spend but the effort you give it. But then again I haven't passed so what do I know.

    FAR 69, 74, 78
    REG 69, 69, 69, 82
    BEC 75
    AUD 76

@KGC111210 – I bet you thought AICPA was messing with your head with three 69s!!! And another 69 for FAR? Are you kidding me! A 69 is a very random score to get, as I haven't seen too many people with it…

The only thing I am wondering is, were you able to get through your study materials? Did you feel rushed during attempts 2-4?

I hope you never have to look at REG again 🙂 You will be a CPA soon!!!

@Getting a CPA – Yeah, I about fell out of my chair when I received the last 69.

Well, the 1st and 3rd I went all the way through the regular Becker course, so I needed more time, less the 3rd time.

The 2nd time I just did the Becker Final Review because I thought I knew it and only made a few mistakes, well I was wrong.

The 4th time (still waiting on May 6th) was different because during the 3rd time I took extensive notes and was stronger in MC but still weak in SIMS on my score report. So I only did the Becker final review again and studied my notes over and over and I supplemented with Wiley Testbank and CPAreviewforfree to get more experience with SIMS. So hopefully now that I know I'm stronger in MC and the extra practive with SIMS I can pull out an extra 6 points.

Thanks for the encouragement, I hope I never have to either. You'll do fine just like your tag says “make a schedule and stick to it”. I don't know your situation but I spent a week on each section (2011 Becker-9 sections) just because I work full time and have a family, but that depends on your schedule and life obligations.

I did feel rushed on the 3rd time because I went all the way through and in less time so it was difficult.

    FAR 69, 74, 78
    REG 69, 69, 69, 82
    BEC 75
    AUD 76
