First time posting , although, I am reading this blog every day. Currently I am restudying REG and I was wondering how many MC questions you are able to do a day and on the weekends. I have a full time job and usually I am able to answer 30-40 questions a day. What about you?

mla1169 although English is not my first language, but I know plenty of people who passed CPA and English wasn't their native language. I strongly believe that it is all about hard work, persistence and perseverance….and proving yourself that you can do it…….

Thanks everybody for your insight… I think I will try to study at work as well whenever I can, when my boss is not around…

I guess I do my MCQ's a little differently, I don't really speed through them, I focus more on why the right answer is right and why the others are wrong.

On my last attempt for Audit I did over 2000+ MCQs and ended up with a 68! The wiley test bank was my primary source of MCQs and after doing so many I became overly familar with the questions. I could tell you the correct answer but looking back now, I don't think I could have explaned the concept behind each question to a reasonable person unfamilar with auditing! I learned a valueable and expensive lesson on quality over quantity. My score report indicated I was comparable on MCQs but weaker on sims, which demonstrated to me that I didn't have a strong/quality understanding of the core audit topics.

Now I am making sure to keep a “fact nugget” book with the concepts behind incorrect MCQs and making sure I can explain each topic to a “reasonable” person. Consequently, I'm doing far less MCQs these last few weeks but I am making damn sure I understand the logic behind each one! 🙂

    Good Luck Everyone!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Sometimes “quality” over “quantity” is more important. Don't worry about how many questions everyone else is doing. Worry about how many you are getting wrong because you just don't have a clue what they are talking about. I was like MintsRGood, I had the Wiley FAR testbank memorized. I knew the answer was $100 and that it was B before I read half the question. We all learn differently. Find what works for you and keep moving forward, just don't quit!

I agree with Kricket while I try and do 100 on a week night I am also spending the time to fully understand what makes some answers right and what makes others wrong and taking notes. It creates for a very long evening of studying but I am absolutely learning a lot as I do it.

I am taking FAR next week. Been studying for a few months now. Did 90 MCQs today, as well as 4 sims…in study mode.

It's 7:30 and I should continue to study, but I can't take anymore in my head!

There is also the “law of diminishing returns”….

Depends on my study routine. If I'm studying comprehensively (finished all the topics), I could do a 90 MCQ under 2 hours.

If I'm reading the lecture/texbook or probably from scratch (beginning the topic), I could probably invest 30=1 hour or more than that depending on how “hard” the topic was for me.

With full time job, additional overtime, and commute time of 3 hours a day, it's hard to balance everything out. Sometimes, I'm not going to read a thing in a day due to being tired and whatnot.

TL;DR Comprehensive review= 90 or more a day depending on my brain capacity; Beginning=30-90 depending on how “hard”; SLACK= fatigue from job.

    FAR - 92 02/2013
    AUD - 90 05/2013
    REG - 85 10/2013
    BEC - 80 12/2013

    I'M DONE. THANK YOU LORD!

Wow, some of you guys are really killing MCQ's. The amount of MCQ's I get done for FAR in one day depends on the difficulty of the section. Sometimes I only get 50, and sometimes I get 100. If I'm working MCQ's but I keep zoning out, I get up and take a break. Quality is an important factor – I'd rather understand 50 MCQ's well than do 100 MCQ and not understand.

Is it valuable to do the MCQs with the answers already presented? Obviously it's cheating, but I learn better when I focus on how to come to an answer rather than sit there and work the problem.

I have done enough MCQs in exam mode and a full length test and I am exhausted with 4 days left!

I would say 50 would be a good number to shoot for. However, my time was spent best by reading the book and doing the questions a few times over the course of studying. If you do the questions too much, you'll just memorize the answers. It's best to keep the information fresh in your mind by reading the book, taking notes, and working quality MCQs over quantity. JMHO.
