How long do most of you study for REG?

It took me 1 month just for BLAW part of it. Tax seems so hard…

I think it varies from situation to situation. Everyone is a little bit different when it comes to studying and how quickly they retain information. Some people take 2 weeks, others take the whole two months. Take as long as you need!

I would focus much more on the Tax side of things. It seems impossible at first but if you keep practicing pretty soon you'll memorize how it all works and you'll find they require less thinking than the BLAW (at least that's how I felt). I would say that tax took me a good 80 hours of studying, and another 40 for BLAW — CONSTANT mcqs. This was also on top of the graduate classes I was taking concurrently for Corporate and Partnership Tax and Business Law class, which surely helped.

Simple answer…. no matter how much you study, it's never long enough.

So far, I've studied about 270 hours total. I plan to put in another 10 hours before my exam date next week. I know, it sounds insane and can you believe it, I STILL do not feel like I studied enough. This is really crazy!!! Even my blood pressure is high for the first time in my life…seriously!! If only the AICPA knew what they're putting me through. The material in REG is just never ending. How the heck can the human brain master all of this material?

I did a little over two months. I work full time and have a 7 month old daughter though too. Everybody is different. Just hammer home as many MC questions as you possibly can. Also, for every time you review, Bus Law, review Tax info twice. I found there to be far less than 40% on Bus Law

@Phllop- That's EXACTLY how I feel. The Tax portion, I seemed to have it down cold. When I do a set of all Tax questions on the Wiley software, I get high 80s to low 90s. But in Law, I get high 60s to low 80s. Phil Yaeger says that people rarely fail REG because of Law, but I'm afraid Law is going to kill me. Law seems to be a lot trickier and the questions are more puzzling and sometimes confusing. With Tax, once you grasp the concept, it's easy to tackle the questions no matter how tricky they are.

Everything didn't turn out so bad in NY from the hurricane. No power outages here in Queens. So far, my test is still on for the 30th. Let's hope there aren't going to be any last minute closings. For the first time ever, I finally feel ready to tackle this beast. I've wrapped up everything I needed to know and I'm ready to kick some butt on Tuesday. Tomorrow, I'll just do a short 1 hour review and will take it easy for the rest of the day so I'll be well rested for Tuesday's exam.

Can you believe it? After tomorrow, I will have studied a total of 300 hours for REG. I'm serious. Everyday, I write down the amount of hours I study and I've totaled them up and after tomorrow, the total will be 300. Now, isn't that insane?? Well, the material in REG is insane, lol. Let's hope these 300 hours of study time weren't wasted. I'm hoping for a 90 or better!!

It is definitely different for everyone in terms of learning style and your areas of strength. I studied 25 hours a week for 3 weeks. However, I was fresh out of a business law class, and had just wrapped up my 2nd tax internship. A lot of it was material that was at least familiar to me. I studied about twice that much for FAR and I'm not even holding my breath that I passed….

I wouldnt worry too much about Bus Law. Just my opinion, but the Bus Law stuff on the exam wasnt too difficult

@pshustler- Thank you for your post. I now feel more relaxed. After tackling some of those Law questions on the Wiley software, I was beginning to panic. The ones in the Wiley book are not too bad, but the ones in the software are extremely challenging. What makes it hard is that the questions are so long with a bunch of names and with a nice little trick added onto it. That can really drive a person mad.

Thats exactly how I feel about FAR CPAMan. They throw in the correct answers if you worked the problem incorrectly, and I click on the answer feeling good about myself and when it pops up “Incorrect. See correct answer for details” I get frustrated
