How Difficult Is It To Get A Testing Slot With Prometric 3 Weeks Out?

I’m scheduled to get a NTS 3 weeks from the end of the October 1 – December 10 testing window. I’ve been study for REG which is scheduled to change after that. How screwed am I? Is it likely I’ll get a spot scheduling 3 weeks out? How much is the material tested for REG expected to change after that?

Why won't you receive the NTS sooner?
Prometric scheduling depends heavily on geographic location. When I sat in Dallas, it seemed like spots were limited, and I often had to drive to locations in the suburbs to test. When I sat in Chicago, there seemed to always be open spots if you're flexible on time of day, and I've rescheduled exams ~week out from test date.

I went to the CPA central website, called up the number they had; and that's the time frame the representative gave me. She said they had a large volume of requests to process. Probably because REG is changing so everyone wants to test now.

Just depends on where your location is, and if you are willing or able to travel to alternate locations. Naturally, the seats fill up more towards the end of the testing window. At my local prometric, I never had a problem scheduling about 3 weeks out and I only sat on Saturdays. On Reg, I signed up at 10pm on Friday for an 8 am exam the next morning. Check out the seat availability tool on Prometrics website (you don’t need an NTS) to get an idea of how many spots might still be open.

Just keeping checking Prometric. People pick spots early on but end up dropping the appointment. By checking frequently, I've was able to get the appointment that I wanted.

I would also repeatedly check on the NASBA website in case you get it early. I've gotten my NTS on there before I even got notified. I was able to schedule my exam 4 weeks before it starts this way. But like others said it depends on your jurisdiction.

I once had to schedule with Prometric 3 weeks prior to my exam and there were no openings during the week I wanted to take the exam. So I picked a location 3.5 hours from my house, booked a Motel 6 room, took the test the next morning, and then drove to a nearby city to hang out with friends! Worst case scenario you can make a fun trip afterwards to reward yourself for your hard work!

Thankfully seats are plentiful here in Nashville. I can even schedule 1 week out pretty easily.
