How calculation-heavy are the REG mcq?

I’m going to be totally screwed if I get questions like “john was a dependent with $5000 income, $300 interest income, and self-employment income of $1000. He has a daughter who’s income is $2000 and goes to school part-time, with tuition expenses of $10,000. What is john’s AGI?”

Also, how much of the REG exam is calculation compared to theory based questions?

    =/

    BEC- 80
    REG- 68, 71, July
    AUD- 61 , 84
    FAR- -- 75 🙂

Everybody's test is totally different, obviously. But in my case, the vast majority of the tax questions involved calculations. And they were very involved calculations, as if they were 3 questions in 1.

Sorry if this is bad news for you.

Luckily, the law side of things doesn't involve calculations, lol. But most of my SIMS did as well.

Yep – I agree. I had a lot of calculations. I probably used more scrap paper on this exam than the other 3. Plus, I HATE that the calculator on the test does not show commas b/c it made it so hard for me to look at the tiny numbers and tell if the calculator was showing 100000 (100k) or 1000000 (1m). That sucks when the clock is ticking and you are having to count the zeros. I ended up doing some of my calcs manually which was even a bigger time waster.

    AUD - 83
    FAR - 78
    BEC - 76
    REG - 86 PTL!!!!!

Used CPAExcel & Wiley testbank (awesome by the way)

I didn't find the calculations to be that bad. Very basic, but everyones test is different. Really, that has been the case for me on all sections except BEC…maybe that's why I had my lowest score on BEC!!

i don't remember many calculations, and when i had them, they were easy. i could have done them in my head but given the stakes involved, everything was going through the calculator. twice.

    Reg 8/31/11 80
