Can somebody here tell me how they studied for REG and passed? I’ve been studying this part for a month already and my brain is having a lot of difficulty retaining all these tax rules. I finally comprehend something and commit it to memory, but then when I study other stuff, my brain keeps flushing out the material I previously remembered. I’m scheduled to take REG at the end of August, so I have about 2 more months of studying and honestly, I just don’t know how I can memorize all this stuff in 2 months. I don’t know how anybody can possibly think that REG is easier than FAR. FAR was a joke compared to this. That is how much I’m struggling with REG. I passed FAR and AUD and I’m so scared that I may be stuck because of REG. I’ve studied about 80 hours for REG so far and have barely retained anything. I’m really in a hole.

Can somebody help me out and give me some tips on how I can tackle this beast? My life depends on it.

Thank you, in advance, for the help!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement. I did about 3 hours of studying today and am slowly starting to get it….but very slowly. Hopefully overtime, as I start getting more practice, I will be able to absorb this material at a faster rate and things will finally start to click.

Well, since NASBA took so long to send me my NTS, I lost that Aug 27th spot that I was hoping to get. I had to followup with them this morning. They claimed they emailed me the NTS yesterday, but I didn't get anything. So, they sent it again today. Sigh!!! It's always something with these people.

So, I took Aug 30th off from work and scheduled my REG test for that day. I guess, in a way, that's a good thing because I get to study during the weekend of Aug 27-28. Gives me an extra 9-10 hours of study time.

Let's hope I master this material by August 30th. I can do this!!!!

A lot of people have said the opposite, so people may think I'm crazy for saying this, but I'm finding Property, Partnerships, and Corporate Tax a lot easier than Individuals. The reason is that there is more concept involved with those materials as opposed to Individuals, which is more like 90% memorization.

Just finished BEC today. Joined in REG group. Hope my tax and blaw knowledge could help me pass this section within 40-50 days. But BTW, I like Phil's lecture. Compared with my previous tax professor, he is easy to understand and follow.

    Hello,

Just posting an update. I have 25 days left to study and so far, everything is coming along just fine. I've been practicing and going over the topics nonstop and the concept is starting to sink in. I think everything FINALLY started to click in when I re-wrote all my notes and reorganized them. I know Jeff advises people to do that and let me tell you, it works!!! Though, I strongly suggest you type them up on a computer. That way, you can save a copy and add and edit anything later on.

My only issue now is that I'm having a little trouble memorizing these tax rules…. 7.5% Medical, $2,400 exclusion on Unemployment Compensation, $50,000 Employee Benefits, 50% Meals & Entertainment, $25,000 Passive loss against passive income, etc etc etc….

I'm working on making a list of all of this and should have this done by the weekend. Once I get the list completed, I'm bringing it everywhere I go and I'm going to memorize all this stuff until I know it in my sleep.

It's ridiculous that they require you to memorize all these, but whatcha gonna do?

@CPAMAN: you will be fine.Dont be panic. I have registered my last section-Reg in Aug 22, since no seats available later before end of Aug. I dont know if I could pass it within 40 days' preparation. So far I have finished watching the dvds and updates once and making notes and all module's flashcards. Also, as required by Phil, I have completed the designated MCs ans SIMs from textbook. But I still have no confidence in passing this part. Now I am doing MCs and Sims from Wiley Test Bank and I really hope that the last strike could help me hit the exam.

cathyzq- I'm in the same boat. I'm taking REG in less than 3 weeks and I do not feel ready at all. I have taken notes, rewrote the notes in my own words, drilled the concepts over and over, did Phil's assigned questions THREE times and kept reminding myself of the concepts I was having difficulty with. I studied over 230 hours already and still do not feel ready for this. I feel like I'm going to fail miserably on 8/30, but if I do, I'll learn from it. With FAR and AUD, at least I felt a little prepared towards the end. With REG, I do not feel like I'm going to make it. But I guess part of the reason is that I'm setting higher standards for myself with this section due to the smaller amount of questions. Since there are only 72 MCQs and 6 TB Sims (as apposed to the 90 MCQs and 7 TBS with FAR and AUD), I have this gut feeling that REG is going to graded VERY VERY competitively. Therefore, I feel I need to kick butt on the practice questions in order to pass.
