I am just curious if I have to expect to see many changes from 2010 format to 2011… If there is anyone who already has taken the exam in 2011, could you please share your experience? Does 2010 Becker CPA review pretty much cover everything for the new format? any comments? your reply would be greatly appreciated.

I hardly ever post, but look on here all the time. I thought I would add my REG experience to the thread. I just took it this past Saturday. The first testlet I honestly felt like I owned it 🙂 The second became harder and the third I was really like “Are you kidding me?” Seriously, I had 3 questions that were on a topic that was covered in about 2 paragraphs in my study material ( I use Gleim)
My SIMS were fairly manageable. I am not sure how I did, but I did feel like the material was material I had studied and my review material had covered. There was one tab on the SIMS though that again I had no idea. Even going back and reviewing my study material, I'm not sure if I answered correctly or not. I think that must be a weakness on my understanding of the topic covered.
All in all I would say the exam was on par with what I had expected. I am hoping I passed, but I think it could go either way. Now I'll just move on to AUD and hope for the best.
January 17, 2011 at 3:49 pm #269629AhmadParticipant@ Acowntint, were you pressed for time during the exam? was the ratio of tax/business law Q's in line with what you expected? And finally how much of the business structure topic previously in BEC was brought up in the REG exam you took ? I passed BEC last November and its somewhat fresh in my head. Sorry for the barrage of Q's, just curious. Thanks
January 17, 2011 at 7:17 pm #269630AnonymousInactive@Ahmad – I ended up with about 30 minutes left so I used it to attempt to research the one SIM tab which I was unsure. Finally got some type of answer 🙂 and finished exam with about 5 minutes left.
As far as the mix of questions, without talking about specifics I would say it was a fair mix, consistent with the CSO. I took BEC and passed in November and did not go back and read the book at all and would say I did fine on anything related to that.
January 17, 2011 at 8:49 pm #269631NessParticipantI took the exam this morning. I would say it was a fair mix of the questions. I started the sims w/ 1 hour & 40 minutes left. I spent about an hour on the sims and finished w/ 40 minutes left over. I had 6 TBS and 1 of them was over a topic that I believe Becker covered in about a paragraph which stinks, and I couldn't find any research over it so I completely guessed on it. I really can't say whether I feel like I failed or passed, wouldn't be surprised either way, but of course am praying for a pass.
BEC 7/20/10 88 (90 hours)
AUD 8/27/10 73 (65 hours), retake 11/22/10 81 (75 hours)
FAR 10/28/10 80 (157 hours)
REG 1/7/10 extended to 1/17/10 78 (130 hours) I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!February 16, 2011 at 8:52 pm #269632LGovParticipantLike @NCP, I recently took REG and am freaked out that the MCQs didn't seem to get too much harder. Yikes. I'm hoping I was just well prepared, since this will be my second time taking it (and hopefully last).

FAR-77February 20, 2011 at 1:42 am #269633AnonymousInactiveI took REG earlier today and I really really wish I had taken it in 2010. The MCQs were fine but the simulations were really detailed! I'm terrified now cause the simulations are worth 40% of our score.
My 2 cents for anyone taking the exam in these last few days left in the window: Know the little little details. The test seemed like the complete opposite of FAR. FAR has often been described as an inch deep and a mile wide. With Regulation, the concepts covered were really few (I almost wished I hadn't even read half the chapters) but they were covered in real depth!
Also, leave enough time for the simulations. I did have time to look through the literature and if I do pass, I think that was my saving grace!
Good Luck to all of you studying/ appearing for exams/ awaiting results!

I agree with you. I thought the MCQ were not that bad but asked details that I wasn't expecting at all. Didn't really seem like the concepts that were driven home in the review was covered much. I would get to a question, read the first 2 sentences and think I know this topic and I would finish reading the question and realize they're asking a minute detail that I know I read somewhere but do not remember. Instead you had to remember minute details. The SIMS were a nightmare. Hard to understand. This is the first 1 I walked out of feeling like I totally bombed the test. )-:

REG-89February 21, 2011 at 5:33 pm #269635jackaroeParticipantHey Lucky Folks who have taken the Reg exam. Y'all are scaring those of us preparing for the exam. Since it's the fine granularity of the details that you keep mentioning – do you guys think that gleim would be a solid addition as yeager and becker and roger seem to be concept driven. Gleim gets into the weeds – but provides a little better explanation than wiley. Please advise! Thanks!

“I took the test already. Left the exam clueless. There will definetly be a retake. I am going to shift gears to FARS away from this horrible test. I get the feeling that Reg is going to be my Road Block. Good luck everyone.”
Hey,
I felt the same way when I took my REG exam last Saturday. I have taken two exams to date (FAR & AUD) and scored quite well on both of them — I did not finish FAR but managed to do well regardless. I was able to work through most of the MCQS even as teslets became more difficult (adaptive).
REG was a completely different story. Right out of the box, the first Teslet I received was the hardest teslet I have ever dealt with. I studied immensly for this exam, more so than both FAR and AUD. I thought I had everything covered, but apparently I did not. The language used and questions asked were vastly different than my study materials (Becker 2011). I limped through this teslet–it was very difficult.
Given that, my second teslet was medium difficulty and the questions seemed more like those from the Becker materials. I got through this teslet and went on to the third one. The third teslet was much more difficult than the second teslet, but not as impossible as the first teslet. Again, I was very suprised (shocked almost) by the first teslet. I can only hope that there were several “trial/test” questions in the first teslet.
I got to the simulations and got through the first two tabs well enough. The third tab was more difficult, but I was able to put together an answer(s). The 4-7th tab was where it started to get ridiculous again. Much like my experience with the first teslet, these tabs asked very strange questions in formats I have never seen before. The Becker material did not have anything akin to these tabs.
I went through the 2011 Becker REG material pretty thoroughly. I did a wealth of simulated exams, made note cards, tabbed up my book, took the practice finals multiple times and did the simulations multiple times. I did my best to memorize all the rules. Even in doing that, I thought this exam was extremely difficult. I honestly do not know what to expect in terms of score. I am pretty sure I will come in lower than my FAR/AUD scores — not sure where.
Very tough exam experience imo.
February 21, 2011 at 10:18 pm #269637herbert7890ParticipantYou guys are really scaring me. This is my last test and I don't want to fail it.
FAR 88 - BEC 86 - AUD 90 - REG 85
February 21, 2011 at 10:49 pm #269638LostHighwayCPAParticipantPlease keep in mind that I did not receive my score yet — I do not mean to scare anyone; I am simply sharing my experience which is just based on my residual emotions when taking the exam. There is a good chance that I did pass, but as I remember my experiences, it seemed REG had more questions that I did not understand (compared to AUD and FAR). This is just my experience and I'm sure (as others have already posted) other people will have different, if not the opposite, experiences entirely.
February 22, 2011 at 1:54 am #269639AnonymousInactiveI 2nd what Herbert7890 said. This is my last test and I'm really freaked out now.
February 22, 2011 at 5:12 am #269640AnonymousInactive@herbert7890 and almost done in fl:
Reg was supposed to be my last test too (and I'm really really hoping it was!) I'm totally not trying to scare you guys and hope that you both get questions from topics you are more familiar with! Read, Read, Read and Read some more and try not to overlook the tiny details!!!
Good Luck and I hope you both come back with positive feedback after the test!!! 🙂
February 22, 2011 at 10:27 am #269641herbert7890ParticipantThanks for your thoughts, Deepa! I will read the whole Becker book again this week (5th time)
FAR 88 - BEC 86 - AUD 90 - REG 85
February 22, 2011 at 4:21 pm #269642AnonymousInactiveI'm freakin. I think we just have to hold out hope that the one score release is purposeful and they realize that they cant fail 90% of 1st quarter reg, and they start throwing out some of the more absurd MCQ and wierd Sims that they were planning on counting.
