I am just curious if I have to expect to see many changes from 2010 format to 2011… If there is anyone who already has taken the exam in 2011, could you please share your experience? Does 2010 Becker CPA review pretty much cover everything for the new format? any comments? your reply would be greatly appreciated.

I second this… anyone see the new exam today? Of course we can't speak specifics… but would like to hear anyone who has done REG and if there was anything shocking. I too am not using a 2011 training.

I will be checking this thread, too. Waiting for some feedback from anybody who had taken 2011 New Reg format. I am using 2009 Yaeger Homestuday and 2011 Wiley Book…..

    BEC: 8/31(75)
    AUD: 11/15(81)

I took the test already. Left the exam clueless. There will definetly be a retake. I am going to shift gears to FARS away from this horrible test. I get the feeling that Reg is going to be my Road Block. Good luck everyone.

    BEC 91 08/22/2010
    AUD 96
    REG 90
    FAR 81 07/24/2011 Done! I can't believe it

@syakoub: I'm taking REG later this month and am completely terrified after your post. Without breaking any of the AICPA disclosure rules, could you be a little more specific about why the exam was so bad? Was it a problem with your review material, the amount you studied or just a plain nasty exam?

I'm taking REG tomorrow. I feel pretty confident until I just saw the post by syakoub. I would love to hear what was some of the problems.

I have taken all four test in the last testing window and I thought REG to be the easiest. Especially now that Business Entities has been added. That was the easiest part of the BEC exam. I reviewed the Becker materials for REG and was fine.

I agree with @WhyEvenTry, Reg. for me is the easiest of the 4 exams then FAR, Auditing and my worst nightmare is BEC. For 2011, Reg. is the least to be affected by the changes.

@syakoub I have read a lot of previous posts that they thought they failed Reg. but it turned out that they passed and in fact scored higher in their exam.

@EM0909153! Just make sure to manage your time tomorrow!

    BEC 2/8/10 - 75 (studied hard & prayed less)
REG 5/15/10 - 88 (studied less but prayed hard)
AUDITING 8/9/10 - 79 (studied hard and prayed hard)
FAR 11/30/10 - 79 (studied hard and prayed hard) Thanks GOD! I'm DONE

Tomorrow (Sat. 1/8) is D-Day for me. I would be more than happy to come out here and talk about my experience afterward. Of course, it's my last exam, so please forgive me if I don't get to the computer until Sunday (consider it a reserve for hangover).

FYI… I used 2009 Becker Reg full course and supplemented with 2010's Yeager Cram… so I'll also let you know if the outdated materials prepared me. (I also used my BEC Ch 1 from Becker for business structure).

    BEC - Pass 10/2010
    FAR - Pass 10/2010
    AUD - Pass 11/2010
    REG - Pass 05/2011

Just got back from taking the Reg Exam today. Did not find the exam to me difficult at all. The first multiple choice book was unbelievably easy, maybe only a couple I had to guess on. The 2nd and 3rd booklets were much more difficult but not unbearable, similar to the hard questions I have been studying with over the last 2 months, so nothing that was unexpected. About 4 questions or so from material that I didn't see in my study material which was 2011.

I think I was fortunate on the simulations. The majority of the material I got I knew very well, except for one that I had to really guess on. In retrospect I should of studied that but overall the questions were what I had wished for, and didn't get what I didn't want to see. Had a brief moment of panic when the computer got a fatal error when I was doing researching the research question. Thankfully they were able to get me back in where I was and didn't lose anything and was able to finish in a timely matter.

FYI I Used the Wiley 2011 Material, Review Book and CD questions.

Overall for me, I found it easier then I had expected. Granted I spent a ton of time studying but nonetheless. Hope this helps.

Just got back from Reg and damn that was kind of tough. I feel worse about this one than I did coming out of the other ones (though my scores ranged from 83-94).

The MC questions were way more particular and nit-picky than I had expected. It didn't seem much easier than Becker's final exams.

The simulation was pretty easy though.

I will not be purchasing 2011 materials. I have reviewed the sample test on the AICPA website and it is very simple. I doubt it will be that easy. Fill out a 1065? Too easy.

Hey 32, best of luck and if you are reading this, turn off the internet so that you can pass.

My REG report. Took yesterday (1/8).

Content: as you see in an above post, I used 2009 Becker and 2010 Yeager Cram (with 2010 Whiley book), and I used Becker BEC Ch 1 for the business structure section that moved to REG in 2011. I am not allowed to offer specific material that I saw on the exam, but I'll put some opinions out there… I think that the above combination sufficiently prepared me for the exam. The parts of the exam that I was tested and had no clue were that the materials themselves should have gone deeper (in other words, it wasn't new 2011 material, it was 2009 stuff that the classes didn't prepare me well for). I was also surprised to find a question regarding a specific schedule from the corporate tax return that those of us in practice see everyday, but study materials have not covered. Luckily, I am very well versed in the workings of this schedule and knew how to answer. My guess is that it was a “pre-test” question and didn't count. So for the time being… I think that you can prepare for 2011 REG, with slightly outdated material as long as you augment your course to the new CSO's released by the AICPA.

New Exam Functionality: call me crazy, but I think they have dramatically improved the exam. First off, the calculator is more like the 10-key you have at your desk, than the craptastic calculator they used to have. It has a running tape and functions like a 10-key. Also, what I think is the greatest improvement is at the bottom of the screen. During the MCQ's, it used to be that you were on Question 1, and you could see the numbers 1-24 and flags at the bottom. You could go to any question you want. Now, the numbers are again at the bottom of the screen, but if you mouse over (hover over) the numbers, it will preview the first sentence of the question… meaning if I'm on Question 15 and it's about MACRS depreciation and I remember I had a question earlier that I'd like to see how I answered, I can hover over all the questions until I find that one. Or if I sit down and I want to go ahead and knock out all questions that may relate to my weakness… you can hover over and pick them out. It's quite helpful!!! Good job examiners!!!! The task based sims weren't too different from the old exam. No written of course. They were more in depth than I thought they'd be. The research question is more difficult now b/c in the past, you found your answer and selected the button next to the paragraph. Now you have to write out the citation… I didn't have time to finish my research question, so hopefully its still only worth one point like in the past.

All in all, I think the new exam format is an upgrade, and the material is pretty much what you hear. I know they can't test all the subjects… but I will say that both Becker and Yeager prepared me well for the law sections… and the tax sections, well, there's just so much info to know that you can't be proficient in all topics, but both courses did me well. I rarely send Becker a compliment, but this time they deserve one. However, I do believe that they spent WAY too much time and energy on Law. Yeager shortened it a lot in the cram to make it appropriate. But (this hurts to say)… Gearty was good at teaching tax.

What sucks is having to wait 3 whole months to find out if I'm a CPA or not!!! I wouldn't be surprised with a pass or a fail, but I feel like I passed. I didn't score a 99 or anything… but a 76 may be appropriate (assuming that 75 is still the passing score).

Please feel free to ask me questions about my experience with the new exam, however, you know the rules on content.

    BEC - Pass 10/2010
    FAR - Pass 10/2010
    AUD - Pass 11/2010
    REG - Pass 05/2011
